The quality of this brand has dropped so much over recent years its actually insane... I used to swear by dakine but I would never recommend them these days.
I had 2 of their mission packs that are 10+ years old. I bought the new mission and a different style about a year ago, and they already feel like they are falling apart. Also, they are the same size, but they feel smaller than the old ones, and also having less pockets/pouches makes a difference.
I really miss the old goggle pouch that was against the back part near the top. And the zippers feel like they're plastic now and not metal.

Once quality companies start to blow up, their quality takes a dump. North Face and Under Armour are 2 examples.
pitiponk1 t1_j5t1ho5 wrote
Any brands similar to UA but with good quality you'd recommend? Years ago I've bought a bunch of those very light & breathable tees & boxers that dry very quickly for the summer as I'm prone to sweating and I absolutely swear by them. I've been thinking of getting some more but I'm worried about the quality.

pitiponk1 t1_j5tm1gp wrote
Tbh I use very thin summer quick-dry boxers even in the winter cause all I need is my pants stopping the wind & my body heat gives me all the warmth I need. I'm more concerned about sweat when I go into heated public transportation in full winter clothes & then get too hot.
Crashtag t1_j5x4lr0 wrote
Unfortunately not really. I think UA still has some quality stuff, but you gotta check it out in person (vs random buy online). Dicks seems to have a good selection at their larger stores.
Other than that, Nike Dri Fit socks have surprised me. LuLu Lemon has been disappointing. I really like Danner boots and socks, but some boots fit weird. Stio has awesome gear worth the cost, but I hate their logo everywhere (personal preference). Still haven’t tried Vuori but want to.
Sorry for the ramble. I realize you want boxers heat gear reccos. I wear Hanes lol. I randomly bought Uniqlo long Johns and those are pretty decent actually.
pitiponk1 t1_j5xurnm wrote
No worries thank you, any info is welcome to me tbh I'm still making my mind up. I guess I'll stop by a local UA store & see if they still carry the stuff & it's quality but I'm also looking around for reliable brands

YKK zippers for the win? Honestly curious. YKK is an amazing company. They control every stage of the production process, from smelting of the metal, all the way to end packaging. I use the YKK brand as a measure of quality of clothes. If the company didn't skimp on the zipper, it's unlikely they cut corners with the fabric, sewing, etc.
tonetonitony t1_j5sijvw wrote

pjm3 t1_j5vdgfk wrote
Valid point. It's not a guarantee of good quality, but not using YKK is typically not a good indication of a quality product. Also, typically, most products fail at the zips and it's not a simple/cheap fix to replace them.

Dakine has a pretty good lifetime warranty. You send them a pic of damage and they will give you credit to their online store if you cut an X in the front of the backpack so you can’t exploit the warranty process multiple times.
ShellSide t1_j5te3kg wrote
Did the warranty process a few months ago. They have a 10yr warranty on their bags but the rep never made me cut the bag. They just sent me the gift certificate for the cost. Can't remember if we still have the original stuffed somewhere or we dropped it off at good will (more likely)
Edit: I think they had me send a pic of the tag with the production number on it which would prevent multiple claims
