Cordless vacuum recommendations?

I really like cordless vacuums. I have cats and like to quickly run around the house every few days. Mine is only two years old and has started making a terrible high pitched screeching noise. Tried oiling the motor and it helped a bit but didn’t fix it. Are there any cordless vacuums actually last longer or am I better off replacing the motor?

Just got the LG Cordzero A9 Kompressor from Costco. It comes with a spare battery and filter. I’m very pleased with the performance so far. It also comes with a stand, so unlike the Dyson you do not have to wall mount the charger.

I just got this. And. I am linking it so far. I was not able to decide between corded shark and this, but at the end decided to go with LG because of convenience.

Dyson, and if you’re lucky it will be on sale at Costco.

Expensive but worth it.

We have pets.

We've been through a couple of the Dysons. After not too long, we'd only get a few minutes per charge, not even enough to do our stairs. Just ordered a Meile cordless, hopefully it's better.

Did you ever think about replacing the battery instead of the whole vacuum? Not holding a charge is a battery problem. Hope you are least donated your old one so someone willing to get a new battery could get an awesome deal on a good vacuum.

I prefer Miele over Dyson and believe Dyson are overpriced, but they’re still great vacuums and batteries aren’t super hard to replace.

We did. Couldn't find a Dyson battery anywhere. Ended up getting a generic battery, but it won't hold a charge for a minute. We got two at the same time (one for the camper). So I guess I just need help sourcing real Dyson batteries.

Dyson sells them on their website for the newer models, and you can always call their customer service to see if they have any for the older models.

This goes for lots of parts for lots of manufacturers. I needed a part for my Vitamix that wasn’t available anywhere online. I called Vitamix and not only did they have it, they sent it to me for free.

Always try the manufacturer even if their website doesn’t offer what you’re looking for. It never hurts to ask.

Our Hoover is probably 15 years old, and Dyson about 4 years and neither has issues. Parts are easily found online (batteries and the canister button popped off the dyson v6) I found with cordless vacuum over the years that it has to be at least $50+ to be decent given the batteries inside alone are worth more than some cheap ones off Amazon. Perhaps these days maybe 70 even. Is this a cheap one off amazon for $18 or a pricey one?

If looking for a new one with the pole style, consider the LG.

Mine cost $90. It’s a dirt devil so not top of the line but not cheep. Might price motors vs vacuums and see if I can keep it going another 2-3 years.

I would see the costs to repair, I think that's worth investigating..esp given it's 2 years old only and the lithium battery is still new.

I'll be honest, not a fan of dirt devil if you decide to get another. It's like the Black & Decker for power tools. In all reviews and Consumer Reports, it's never in the top ten or even 15. LG, Hoover, Dyson, Shark, Samsung, Bissell, etc are the ones who excel at and invest in improving.

I love my dyson cordless vacuum. It has two settings. I have three small dogs an vacuum every day. I’ve had it over a year now an it still works as good as new.

I just bought a Riccar Cordless Supralite Lightweight Upright Vacuum (R10CV10) based on online reviews from a vacuum repair guy. It’s extremely lightweight and easy to use but it was also quite expensive - $809 WITH the discount I requested. I am unable to lift and struggled with cords so it works well for me. I am easily able to carry it upstairs to vacuum.

On the downside:

  1. It must be recharged often as the charge only lasts about an hour.

  2. There is no “full bag” indicator so one must unzip the outer bag to determine fullness level (not difficult).

  3. One must buy replaceable bags.
