So I used to own some flannel sheets purchased directly from the Eddie Bauer catalog in the late 90s, lasted almost 20 years. I’m looking at buying some new ones but wondering if there is there a difference in the flannel that come direct from Eddie Bauer, and the ones that are resold on Amazon / Kohls etc. They all say 100% cotton flannel, but the price points and patterns are different. The ones on Amazon even say: ‘Reyman International is an authorized licensee of Eddie Bauer Licensing services LLC” - which gives me some hesitation as to the genuine quality.

I would 100% bet those sheets are not what they used to be.

I bought some off Amazon last year and have been happy so far. I can’t speak to if they’re the same quality as before because this is my first pair but been about a year and so far so good

There will be a marked difference. Licenced product quality is dictated by the buyer, in this case Kohl's, to hit price point from Mexican factories.

You can still buy direct from Eddie Bauer, quality European sheets, however they will be more costly.

You are trying to step on a dime and get two nickels. This almost always means you step in dogshit instead. If you want great flannel sheets, you have two options:

  1. Buy some ding dong Eddie Bauer flannel sheets and go with a known good. Now everyone here is a grumpy boomer who will state that quality goes down, but they don't know, they just like to repeat that phrase.
  2. Ask for BIFL flannel sheets and post your pricepoint and don't shop your conclusions. Amazon and Kohls are retailers who sell 3,225 types of flannel sheets so mentioning their names obfuscates the issue as you need a specific brand and/or the metrics of purchase.

Metrics of purchase

Long staple cotton. Egyptian cotton. Supima cotton. Pima cotton. If you don't see any of these words on the package, keep walking. For the common man, those four terms mean the same thing.

GSM (Grams Per Square Meter) or in ounces per square yard is how flannel is sold. The best flannel sheet weights start at 160 GSM or 5 Ounces. Think the heavier the better/longer lasting, but weigh this against the warmth desired.

I literally just went through this. I wanted great flannel sheets and most review sites pointed to LLBean. But LLBean is only 5 ounces and I think Eddie’s is 7 or 8. Also Eddie has better patterns, LLBean is kinda boring. I went with purchasing directly from Eddie Bauer because they had the pattern and sizes I wanted and Amazon did not. They shipped the next day and I got them a few days later. Can confirm they are amazing and I don’t regret it one bit.
