I don't expect bedsheets to last for life, but I do expect them to last more than two years. I rotate between three sets of sheets and 2/3 of the fitted sheets have split. Would love recommendations on cotton sheets that will last longer than two years.

I just posted about my comphy sheets about 10 minutes before your post. I guess I sounded too marketing department-esque though. We’ve had them for longer than 2 years and they still feel brand new. They are not cotton though so if your heart is set on cotton, maybe not for you.
I’ve had my comphy sheets for probably 10 years now and they show zero wear and tear.
Target has an every day line, reasonably priced (sheet set +2k pillowcases for $39USD) which are silky-soft and wear like iron! I believe they are microfiber. They are NOT the jersey ones target carries....I don't like those - too hot!
I can't speak more highly about my bedsheets by Kotn. They are a Canadian company (I'm Canadian) and their bedsheets are the one thing I let myself splurge on. I've had them now for 2 years and they are as good now as the day I bought them - honestly maybe better as I use them 80+% of the time, and they have softened and are so cozy without signs of wear. They are expensive but worth it, I recommend you check them out! I love their quality, colours, plus they actually do good things for the people they work with (I spent a lot of time researching decently ethically sourced bedsheets before purchasing), and they are all drier friendly. Also, they make clothing that is (surprise) cotton and top notch. Super soft, great quality, long lasting. 10/10 recommend them for your next set of sheets!
Another vote for Redland Cotton percale sheets. They aren't are silky soft as a modern sheet set, but they'll last much longer and get softer the more you wash them. I rather like the crispier feel they have anyways.

I’ve really really liked our sheets and giggles sheet set, they’re eucalyptus and I sleep hot, plus dogs. They’re not BIFL but they’re also solid.
Any advice on what material to buy in sheets that will hold up to the rigors of sending the sheets to a commercial laundry?

That's the weak answer. The full retard answer is long staple cotton. Also goes by Pima, Supima or Egyptian Cotton. If you don't see these words, its not long staple.

Pretty much all of those are unverifiable and there have been plenty of lawsuits about fake Egyptian Cotton. All of those labels are unregulated. If you’re buying based of that, you shouldn’t have a lot of confidence
I buy based on labels as I'm not a pessimist. Fraud is everywhere and in everything, but I still pump 93 in my car and take a pill from a bottle that's says ibuprofen. If you wish to live your life believing 1 lawsuit = give up, then go on with your bad self.
There have been a lot more than 1 lawsuit on Egyptian Cotton. Plus, most companies buy their cotton from a distributor, who buys that off the open market. I can’t believe that anyone would honestly think they are getting “Egyptian cotton” with their Costco sheets or whatever. There are few companies that buy direct rather it be Supima, Pima, or Upland or Giza 45. Regardless, it is best to buy from a company buying directly from the farm or growing it themselves like Red Land Cotton- their sheets are the best anyway
They are not the best as there is no best. Careful with words as there's no evidence to back them up. Red Land Cotton is long staple cotton and is top tier. Best? There's no evidence of that.

Get a new mattress in high school, get some cheapo jersey-knits from Bed Bath, and Beyond. Use them through high school. Use them through college. Use them through grad school. Use them through 6 more years after that.
