What I am looking for, is a small pepper grinder, ideally an inch or less in diameter, and heavy is fine.

Should not have to state being where I'm posting, but must be sturdy and reliable, with great longevity.

I bought a camping one, broke in a week. But the use case here is not "camping"

definitely not looking for anything disposable

non electric (of course)

Peugeot make the best pepper grinders and they last for ever and the grinder has a life time guarantee. I can’t comment on how well it would fit for your camping needs, but this little buddy looks like it would be good:

I love that this thing exists, and wish I lived a life that would justify owning it.

They also make the best cars. I got a red salt and pepper mill to go with my red Peugeot 505 turbo wagon. They truly make great pepper mills. I refuse any pepper unless it comes from a grinder cause anything else is just rafter dust.

Some strong opinions there, I love them and will not argue

If you look at the teeth on those disposable plastic grinders, you can see that they get worn down so bits of plastic are getting in your food.

Yes I realize all that.

Asking a specific question here.

Not a camping thing specifically, looking for a fine product, ideally a thing of beauty

It seems the Peugeot inner workings are more likely to last a lifetime

Ooh I like that Bali Fonte , looks BIFL

Yes chunky, wider but being shorter might make up for it!

Doubles as a self-defence weapon in a pinch 😋

They're all BIFL though. They have an unlimited warranty on the mechanism. And well, good luck destroying the wood (or in this case metal).

I have in fact had wood dry out and split with other brands

Use case involves some outdoors use. I love the idea of the cast iron tbh

Why not take the McCormick black peppercorn grinder with you, just as it comes from the grocery store? It even comes with a dust cap. Not much larger than the 1" you wanted, and pretty inexpensive.

This is BIFL after all, and throwaway plastic is the opposite of that afaiac

You do you, but I lose stuff when I go camping. I'm not taking any prized collectibles with me!

And BTW your post could have been more specific as to what you were truly looking for...

blaze1234 OP t1_j9ll5rf wrote

I have no S&B home, not really "camping" though

and nothing is "collectible", each item curated as I go and well cared for.

I apologize for assuming the BIFL philosophy and goals were left as implied.

What I am truly looking for is a small sturdy reliable pepper grinder with great longevity.

Hi, u/blaze1234 ! Thank you for this, my reply wound up sounding more aggressive than I intended. The downvote to my post was appropriate, I should have been more in tune to the implied "BIFL" context as well! Good luck in your quest!
