Oil them like boots. It's not a mitten baby, it's a chopper.

I have a bottle of sno-seal beeswax or should I go the oil route?

That's what I used on mine, works well. Follow instructions and reapply occasionally. Will change the color a bit.

I used it on my leather winter boots and it’s been great, will probably do the gloves tonight

I can definitely recommend this. I use the sno-seal on a collection of vintage leather Nordic gear, and I swear by it.

And yes, it will darken the colors, and can darken unevenly if you get overly enthusiastic in one area and then lose you vim elsewhere. But, honestly, I’ve started enjoying the darkening. Almost like a point of pride.

How’s the quality? Their products seem to inexpensive to be BIFL.

Look into leather conditioners for boots and follow the instructions.

If you want true waterproofing, then snowseal or beeswax or otterwax, but these are sealing treatements and will not allow the leather to breathe, reducing its potential lifespan.

Would they not breathe to the inside?

Its kinda like trying to breathe through a straw with one end clogged. Think of leather like a porous sponge, or like your own skin. It has pores and layers that want to be moisturized, rather than surface coated in plastidip.

The Snowseal or beeswax approach is a legitimate treatment, and will by no means ruin your gloves. People do this all the time to get a true waterproofing. If you are working in the rain or slush constantly, then it is probably best. For typical everyday brush the snow off the car and walk the dog, keeping them properly conditioned with a leather conditioner will be all the "waterproofing" you need and they will shed moisture and natually dry off just fine.

If you play enough pond hockey those choppers might last you a couple years at best.
