Advice on bath towels?

Any brands to try for bath towels? Have had a few brands, and all seem to go to shreds within a few months, tops. The last set we got was from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. We treated them with care when washing and drying. Only a month or two in and already threads are popping loose.

The best towels are the old cotton ones. The ones that take a layer of skin off when you use them. There'll be some measurement about g/m^2 but you want a towel to be a mild rasp.

Red Land Cotton towels are the bomb- not for everyone because they are not super fluffy, but they last a long time and are very absorbent and the perfect thickness. Plus they are made in the US. We won’t ever buy any other towels

I have always had great luck with towels from Target. The more plush or thicker ones.

The last set I bought were the Better Homes and Gardens ones from Walmart and they've lasted for years with no appreciable wear for me.

Costco bath sheets. Best ever. My husband is a big guy and rough on everything. With three kids, dogs, and a husband, we are on year 5 of them and they look brand new.

I bought 100% cotton towels from restoration hardware … at least 15 years ago. They’ve been great and still look really good. Turkish cotton. But I don’t know what the quality is like these days.

American Soft Linen. They make some oversized ones that I can actually wrap around under my armpits and tuck in and feel covered.

IKEA! Ours have lasted for many years and when I picked up some more washcloths recently, they seem just as indestructible as ever. I also like that their towels are thinner and dry faster. Thick towels always land up smelling musty in our house and don't dry out between uses.

Westin Hotel sells their towels online. Two sets for each person in our home plus a dozen face cloths and two bath mats see a lot of wear and laundering. Two years in and they're like new. High loft. Super absorbent.

We bought company store ones 3-4 years ago. They look brand new and are so soft! We've got the basic cotton ones, not the fancier versions.

+1 for Redland Cotton.

Their towels are fantastic. Not ultra plush (which is a good thing for towel longevity) but still very absorbent. just make sure to care for them correctly with Oxiclean. chlorine bleach will deteriorate the fibers. (This goes for ALL cotton towels, not just Redland.)

are you open to waffle weave? I've only had them for a few years but they look the same as when I bought them. (I have Gilden Tree).

I have always purchased Wamsutta. They have both cotton and a cotton blend. They last well, are thick, and do not fade much. My oldest ones are from the 70’s. That said, expect to use them 15-20 years. We wash everything in cold water. I use Lysol Laundry, Tide and Clorox 2. Nothing ever fades. Dry on medium heat. If a thread pulls, cut it and tie it off, then cut the ends short. Fixes the problem of runs. I purchased mine from BBBY but they are available in other chains and on Amazon as well. The company has a long history of good quality.

You would want to look at cotton quality first and foremost. Look for these 4 distinct phrases: Supima, Pima, Long Staple, or 100% Egyptian (the percentage is important as legally an item only needs 5 percent Egyptian cotton to be labeled as Egyptian). My preference is Supima or American grown Pima as the standards on the product are more highly regulated. These cotton strands are longer and resist pulling through time and typically get better with age. Red Land and Land's End Supima Cotton towels are excellent.

I chose mine based on size, material, and the company and as a bonus found a sale and ended up going with Boll & Branch Plush Bath Sheet which is organic cotton and being the “sheet” rather than “towel” means that it is larger at 36” x 70” rather than 30” x 58” which is my favorite part and I will never go back to standard sized towels. Its definitely been a few years and I haven’t noticed any degradation in them so far though it is only one person using them.

Something I have been interested in trying but haven’t yet is the Onsen Waffle Bath Sheet which most notably to me is made of Supima cotton which is one of the best types of cotton you can get. The towel is also supposed to be thin, lightweight, absorbent, and quick drying. I have seen positive things from others on here before but haven’t bought one myself yet. A benefit those would presumably have over the ones I have is that because they are thinner they would take up less space which can be a factor with how big bath sheets are though Onsen’s bath sheet is slightly shorter and wider at 38” x 67” anyway. It may be of limited relevance but I do have a Supima cotton t-shirt and it is the softest, most premium feeling t-shirt I own though to be fair it is also a heavier weight shirt anyway which adds to the premium feel

I might get grief for this, but Martha Stewart from Macy's. And I love her sheet sets even more...

ETA: I always make sure to dry them on LOW. It saves the elastics from scrunching up/look new much longer.

You are correct. We lived near a Target since 2005. Sadly, our new home is very rural, and it is in Walmart territory. We are getting a Starbucks and Whataburger. Got an Ace and TSC, and hopefully, Target next.

I look for made in USA/Canada towels at thrift shops. They only put out next-to-new towels, and they last forever.
