What do I need to do to find an actual hotel quality down pillow?

Hello!

Maybe (probably) I'm too picky, but I have headaches daily and neck pain, and I'm on my like 4th-5th pillow trying to find the perfect one (tried memory foam before the 2 down ones and wasn't for me, then like a 40$ one from Target.)

I bought this one and returned it because it felt underfilled https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09XQWXB9B?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details so I bought this one https://www.parachutehome.com/products/side-sleeper-pillow-down based on a post I read here and with that price tag, I was assuming this would be as good as a hotel pillow, but it's not much different than the Amazon one, and I'm feeling kind of discouraged. Neither are bad, but they don't feel like what you can get at a hotel.

I'm looking for an actual hotel quality down pillow, any suggestions? Preferably from places with returns, but I'll take any.

Lots of hotels offer the same pillows they use new for sale.

Why would you want a hotel pillow? They are the worst! I bring my own pillow to hotels to avoid hotel pillows.

I was also on the hunt for the perfect pillow until I was told I was having tension headaches. Now I take a muscle relaxer when I feel one coming in.

Look up tension headaches and see if that sounds like your symptoms.

I just ordered last month this one and I'm very happy with it! I ordered the soft one, but it was too flat, so I exchanged it for this one.

It's good enough I went back and bought another.

It is not BIFL, but it's better than the $100 (!!!) pillows it replaced.

Not a hotel pillow but instead of down, why don’t you buy shredded latex by the pound. I forget offhand how many pounds it takes for the average pillow, more than one, but the advantage is you can add it or take away until you reach you comfort level.

Dude, check out Pacific Coast.

Super high quality, made in America pillow that are well worth their cost.

Slept on them at a posh bed and breakfast in Montgomery, northern Vermont, and had one of the best nights of sleep of my adult life.

Ordered them as soon as we got home and still love them like 5-6 years later. No compression or loss of comfort whatsoever.

Now, I refuse to consider them BIFL just due to their nature and the eventual accumulation of more gross human things than I’ll be comfortable with, but these have been an excellent purchase for my wife and I.

You need to get out of Target and Amazon and spend about twice what you’re trying to budget for this. Forty bucks is going to get you crap.

I looked at the brand last time I stayed at a nicer hotel. It was actually called “Hotel Collection” and you can find the brand at places like Macy’s and Nordstrom. They also make bedding, robes, etc.

I have the same issue and have tried all kinds of pillows from $20 to $100. I now sleep without a pillow. All neck pains are gone! But there's a brand call Hotel Collection at Macy's that has pretty good quality stuff.

If you like the ultra plush with a little more support, and if you're not attached to down, I would highly recommend looking at latex foam pillows. Plush feel with lots of support. You can get softer or firmer support at many different sizes that fit you sleeping style (side). Look into a thicker Talalay latex pillow. Might fit your needs.

I like the upper tier of the ikea down pillow. It has a double (or triple?) structure, with a different percentage of down / feathers in the chambers to make it soft but filled. As a side effect the filling doesn't move that much during the night :)

I’ve been extremely happy with the pillows from Coop home goods. The price point is pretty outrageous (I waited for a sale), and even my partner was unsure if we should drop that much on pillows. But it’s something you use every day for several hours — it’s worth the investment. It quite literally revolutionized the way my partner and I sleep. You can remove or add the pillow filling, making it customizable to your liking!

I figured, that's why I went for like 80$ on Amazon and then tried the 160$ one on Parachute but I actually think the Amazon one was better haha. Lots of suggestions in this thread though, hopefully I will be able to find a good one with all that help.

Good question, I haven't had one yet long term, I tried those I mentioned in the OP but returned them. Seems like someone said dry cleaning though. I figured I was going to look into it afterwards haha. I don't wash my pillows that often though but at some point I would.

I definitely have tension headaches, it builds up in my temples and get worse through the day + I have TMJ disorder, work at desk all day and my vision strains too because of uncorrectable bad eyesight in one eye but I slept on a better pillow for a month at my mom's and it helped. I didn't consider taking muscle relaxers daily though, did it help a lot? What do you take?

I had a similar problem and found Parachute Pillows:

While they arent cheap, they give you 60 days to return it if you aren't satisfied.

No pillow is BIFL, but this one is made very well and very comfortable. I will be buying another when the time comes. Good luck with the search!!

I’m looking for a quality pillow too. The past few years I’ve bought about 6 different pillows, they all have worn down or lost it’s new pillow comfiness in two months max.

They have pillows that are filled with Buckwheat hulls, beans72 is a good brand, that offer excellent support and are great for people with sensitive neck/backs. I also went through many different pillows before finding these and now I only use them, take them with me when I travel, etc. Sounds goofy but totally works.

Look into Downlite bedding. They supply a lot of hotels and chain stores with their bedding.
