As a farmer I spend a ton of time on my feet. Thorogood boots have for many years been my favorite. I probably oiled these for the last time today. I always have two pair so I can alternate, but they quit making my size so I guess I’ll have to move on. I didn’t take a photo of it but the stitching is giving way in a few places. The soles are only half wore out but I wear them mostly on soil.

These are maybe 10-12 years old, never done anything but clean them and oil them with saddle oil which is mostly lanolin and silicone. Same laces, worn all year around.

I hope I can find a company as good to replace them with. I need a narrow width, most companies don’t have them.

Perhaps they can be fixed.

Good to hear, I got my son-in-law a pair of their 8 inch fly boots for Christmas at his request. He's an apprentice pipe fitter.

Classic redwing moc toe is quite narrow. They have two last versions, one is more modern and wide.

I really like my Jim Greens, but they're quite wide.

My only problem with Thorogoods (I have a pair myself) is that they use a plastic welt in their Goodyear welt. They color it to look like leather, but it is not. Will crack and won't accept conditioning like leather to mitigate cracking.

Bring them into a shoe/boot smith. They’ll be able to breathe new life into them to keep them going for another decade or more. I have the same pair of Thorogood boots as you do, and they’re as good as they were when I first bought them many moons ago!

What size do you wear? I’ll be honest, I was about to call bullshit on this until I saw the laces burning halfway through the eyelets. As far as new boots, I’d try on a pair as their sizing may not be consistent with what it was 10-12 years ago. Thorogood is kinda goofy with sizing as most people actually need to go wider it seems. Otherwise check out r/workboots, though most will just tell you to get Thorogoods or $700 Nicks/Whites. RoseAnvil on YouTube is also worth checking out.

Can you have them Re-soled? A cobbler might be able to give them a refresh and re-sole and get you a few more years out of them.

Personally, I have trouble finding shoes wide enough (size 12, 4-5E width depending on the brand).my goal is to eventually buy a pair of White’s, JK, or Wesco fully custom boots. White’s will keep your lady on file for future purchases. But with how much prices have gone up it has gone from a $500 to a $900 purchase unfortunately.

My custom Wesco boots cost more than my first car but they are by far the best I have ever owned.

But- has yours cracked yet? I’ve seen a lot of people comment about this, but never seen it as a real issue, beyond boots that have lived on construction sites and are totaled all around. I picked up a pair of Thorogoods (my first pair of GYW shoes) about 2 months ago and have walked at least 150+ miles in them so far and don’t really see the welt being an issue (after all, at least it can be replaced if needed, ha).
