Ok, this is definitely the weirdest question I have ever asked on reddit. I teach fiber arts classes, and I am teaching my first wet felting class in Cambridge in a couple weeks. Students are going to make small pouches, and we will felt around fist-sized stones to get the pouch shape. I'm new to the area, and had to throw away my collection of stones in my move. And now I need to replace them, but don't know where to do so in the city! Usually I have just picked them up from river beds or the odd drainage ditch or landscaping, but I haven't found any good locations in Cambridge. Does anyone have any ideas where I might find a few? Or perhaps there are stores where one can buy such a thing?

I need about 10, fist-sized, round-ish. I'm attaching a picture of roughly what I'm looking for. Thank you so much for your help!!

EDIT: I should mention I don't have a car, so driving to stores or locations outside of the city is sadly out.

garden centers, pet stores, home depot etc will have them

i have seen them in some landscaping where you could probably pilfer a few unnoticed but don't remember exactly where. some of the bougie new projects around kendall square would be a good place to start.

Pemberton Farms is in Cambridge on Mass Ave close to the Arlington town line. You can use the #1 bus. Also, the Seven Stars book store in Central Square sells precious stones but not a precious prices.

Wait, you weren't the dude shambling up and down my driveway - and those of my neighbors - picking up stones the other day, were you? I was wondering about what was going on there but wasn't exactly interested enough that I thought it warranted going outside.

Haha no that wasn't me. I try to avoid taking stones from folks' private property...although I confess I have pilfered a few in the past from various big tech campuses' landscaping...

Who said I was on the couch? Was just pouring myself a coffee in the kitchen when I happened to glance and notice him. He wasn't bothering anyone and seemed to be feelin' no pain, so I just sort of shrugged and let him be.

Why stones? Why not tennis balls or golf balls. Round rocks are hard to find

If you ever find yourself with a car, the beaches in Scituate are basically just stones.

I’d check the craft store in Porter Sq shopping center (right outside of t). They may have something similar.
