Hi all, I’m finally at the place in life where I recognize my style could be drastically improved by just tailoring my existing wardrobe rather than trying to go find new pieces. For example, taking in pant waistlines and dress hemming.

Im curious if anyone has tailor recommendations or advice on how to find a good one? Hardly any in Cambridge have prices available on their websites, so I’m particularly stressed about finding one at a good value. I’ve found Yelp and Google reviews all to be relatively middle of the road at 3.5-4 stars and not providing much differentiation, so I’m keen to find the best price at the standard level of service. Thanks in advance for any tips.

I’ve only tried one and it’s Jack’s on Mass Ave near Porter. Only men’s clothing but I’ve had a positive experience there. That said I didn’t do any intense tailoring (taking a shirt in, hemming pants, etc) and I don’t remember what it cost. Good luck!

He did a pretty full tailoring job on my suit (pants & jacket) for I think a little under $300.

Another vote for Jack. He does great work on just about anything you bring in and is super friendly and easygoing.

Haven’t been there for a few years, but this guy was great, and almost stupidly underpriced. Also, I think this same question was asked a couple of years ago, so search the sub.

Thanks for the rec! And yes I searched tailor on the sub but none in recent years had pricing details, hence the new ask. Realizing now it may be impossible to answer since the services are likely priced based on piece, fabric, and extent of modifications

He’s very close to retirement and the hours are more and more limited. Great quality but will need to find an alternative soon…

Nordstrom Rack offers alterations on clothes. I’ve brought jeans and pants to be hemmed that were not purchased there. Or at a Nordstrom at all. They did an okay job. Not stellar like the one I go to in CT, but it affordable and fine for a basic hem.

I love Dress Code Cleaners near Central Square. It’s small and not fancy but they always do a great job with tailoring at very reasonable prices and the owners are really nice. I got my wedding dress hemmed there and my husband got his wedding suit tailored. He had been referred to a tailor in Boston that would’ve cost ~$400 and we got both of ours done for less than $100 and very very happy with the quality!

The best tailor by far is Mid Cambridge Alterations. Excellent service and fair prices. It’s an immigrant-owned business! 10/10

Union Square Tailoring! The owner did some alterations on my wedding dress and I had a great experience, she is really sweet. And it was super reasonably priced (which nothing about weddings ever is).

John's in Watertown is my go to, I'll say they're not a fast service. They're quality and good price though and to me that makes it worth it me. I know they don't do wedding dresses anymore, and it's been a while since I had a dress tailored, but she did an amazing job last time I brought one in.
