Artisans Asylum is no longer in Somerville, but it still has the community you’re looking for.
Main branch of the Cambridge Public Library has a makerspace in the basement.
This is great, but it’s such a pain to get certified for a specific tool.
Check out Cambridge Hackspace in Somerville
They're in Allston now, for the curious
Can you borrow a neighbor’s drill/drill press?
On this topic — not sure if they have a drill press, but you can view their available equipment online. Here’s their website and their equipment list.
No drill press or really any woodworking tools (other than a laser cutter/engraver).
no drill press though
It's called The Hive and It was easy to get safety certified on their zoom class but I've been waiting for a long time tryin to get a space to get certified on a specific device.
It's free and convenient which makes it a bit over-subscribed. I'd get the process started with the safety training and then try to get certified on the tools when you can
This place looks awesome! Pretty affordable memberships too.
Check Rockler since it’s a wood working store they may do that for you.
