I’m relatively new to the area and hoping I can find a band to play music with. I was a lead vocalist for a number of years in Michigan before relocating late last year. Looking to play shows occasionally and have a good time. I tried to find a boston music scene subreddit but didn’t have much luck. Any input is appreciated!

Go talk to Chris Anzalone at Stereo Jack's, in Ball Square (Somerville). Chris is the owner of the store and a full time drummer and he knows EVERYONE in the local music scene. Good luck and welcome to the neighborhood!

Sick! I’ll wander that direction tomorrow. It’s not too far from me.

/r/bostonmusic though it’s not super active

Would help if you mentioned what genres you’d prefer, posted some links to prior work, stuff like that.

If you want to check out local acts try some smaller clubs around town, meet some of the members and try to network. Always local stuff going on at the jungle, the midway, the late show at sally o’briens, square root, obriens in Allston, etc.

This. Go to live shows and talk to people in bands. The Boston music scene can feel surprisingly small sometimes, in a everyone knows each other kinda way. Lots of bands play with the same bands a lot. Talk to some people playing music and you can get some leads that way.

Your comment reminded me, the rock and roll rumble is coming up in April. It’s not what it once was sure, but still a great way to see a lot of newer bands and meet people. Sometimes that circle of bands can feel a bit hard to break into, but it’s also a lot of people who know a lot of people.

Never heard of that. I’ll have to check it out.

When we still had actual rock stations who dedicated air play to local music and they sponsored this stuff it was bigger. Anngelle Wood still runs it and a podcast type local music show. A lot of the groups involved either as bands or judges tend to be people who know the host, so it can be a little circle jerky, but still a great way to network if you want to break into the local music scene.

Yeah, I kinda do a bit of everything. I should’ve clarified that. I’ve been going to shows and attempting to meet people that way. I’ll stay the course. Thanks for the info!

Hate to say this, but you gotta head to face book for this. The Boston Musician Network is a great group, probably the best group.

I had to create a FB account for this.

I just joined and found a couple posts looking for people. If nothing comes from that I’ll make a post. Thank you so much!
