Hi everyone! I've been in the area a long time, but only really lived in two places so my knowledge of the different apartments in and around Columbia is kind of limited. I'm moving in a few months and looking for a decently priced one bedroom for just myself, but I'd really like a den because I work from home. Hate the idea of spending so much of my time in the same room all day. Trying to save a bit compared to a 2br so a den seems like a good middle-ground.

Unfortunately, neither Zillow or Apartments.com really allow you to search for one bedrooms with a den specifically. I was wondering if anyone could point me in a good direction. In general I'm trying to stay near Columbia, but currently in EC and I like it here too. So far I found Beech's Farm in King's Contrivance but the reviews look pretty bad. Any help would be super appreciated!

Sherwood Crossing. It’s technically in Elkridge but almost literally across the street from Columbia.

Thinking you may be right, most of the places with a 1b + den are around the same price as a 2br. Avalon is a good shout though, their den looks like it has hardwood floor and a window which would be just what I need for an office space. Towards the top end of my budget but I'm saving them, appreciate it!

I lived in a 1br with den in the Alister complex (used to be called King's Crossing), on Guilford road right at the end of broken land parkway. Was a nice place, good management (though this was 10+ years ago so who knows if that's still true), very easy to get to Columbia, 32, 29/95. We stayed there for 5 years until we got a house, would recommend.

management is okay these days but there is a LOT of dog poop around from neglectful dog owners. other than that it's actually pretty clean and well kept. some drainage issues though so the mosquito situation in summer is...not good.

Autumn Crest has den apartments. Not sure when they'll be available.

Hello. I’m a local real estate agent and could possible help with your search. Are you only seeking a den or is a two bedroom ok? A den would be a room that has no closet and/or window and may not have a door. What is your budget?

I am saving for a place of my own and not super far along with that yet, so I have been waffling between a low budget around $1500-$1600 and nicer places around $2000-$2100. I'm trying to find a nice middle-ground but to be honest, the reviews for almost every place I look at are awful. Double true for anywhere that is priced reasonably, but even the nicer places have very poor Google reviews. I know it costs extra to live in this area, but when I see mention of bugs/pests and car break-ins, it just seems like it sort of defeats the purpose of paying the high price you know?

Originally I was looking at 2br apartments but many of them are priced a little higher than I would like. I'd like to be able to have rent/utilities come in under $2k. I'm still considering 2 bedrooms, but the den/other bedroom would be an office workspace. It doesn't matter to me if it has a closet or door, I just don't want my workspace in the bedroom if that makes sense. I had not considered that dens don't have windows though, that is helpful to know. The main things I am interested in are hardwood/vinyl floors if possible, in-unit laundry, and I guess a balcony would be nice but I'm easy to please- I could go without. I just want to live somewhere clean and relatively nice without unwanted bugs or smoke in my living space.

If it doesn’t have a door, how would you get into it?
