The bar is that you are a validly licensed driver. They could ticket you for not having it, but the picture might smooth that for you. There's no rational reason you would be arrested, towed as long as you actually are a licensed driver.

It takes dmv 20 days to ship a replacement license, how is someone supposed to not drive for 20 days? I can’t miss a month of work bc my license was stolen

Did I say don’t drive? No. Disclosure. I’m not a lawyer.

I know, the question wasn’t directed at you, I meant in general how could a cop ticket you for someone stealing your license

Before Covid you would walk into the AAA motor club and walk out with a copy. I doubt the law anticipated the current issues.

If you drive without a license on your persons they will give you a ticket. If you drive and never had a license or permit more than likely the car will be towed. In this scenario there is only one person driving.

They won’t. A photo of your license will suffice and the printout copy will do just fine. Cops are just going to run the numbers on it anyways to verify it’s valid.

When you apply online, you can print off a temporary license that is valid for a certain number of days. I had to do this at the end of August when I lost my driver’s license. My husband was very upset that I hadn’t gone to get one in person as we were going on vacation several days after it expired. The license arrived before the printed temporary one was invalidated.
