I can’t find anything on google stating it’s illegal. I would assume taking a picture of your license and presenting it to the officer would be enough, considering they can look you up in their system.

I would obviously explain the situation to them and hope they’re not in a bad mood that day.

The bar is that you are a validly licensed driver. They could ticket you for not having it, but the picture might smooth that for you. There's no rational reason you would be arrested, towed as long as you actually are a licensed driver.

Okay thank you. I’m just freaking out a little bc I know cops treat driving without a license seriously and when my wallet got stollen I didn’t even think about license thing I was just thinking about my money and debit cards in my wallet and now I’m worried I’m gonna go to jail for driving without a license

If you're not committing traffic violations, no one would pull you over for having a copy of your license.

They could potentially just give you a written warning or a ticket for driving without having it. They wouldnt arrest you. Honestly dont get too paranoid about it. Depends on the officer and their mood especially if youre not a jackass about it. Im surprised theres nothing on DMVs website. Youre not gonna go to jail. You already have a license just not the physical card.

I’ve never been pulled over before and I drive safe I’m just worried about if I ever got pulled over for any reason like if my break light or something went out before my replacement license came. I don’t have a license copy currently, it would just be a picture of my stolen license

When I requested a replacement license online from the DMV last year, I received a temporary license that I could print out and carry with me. Did you not get one of those?

You'll be fine. At worst you can give them your name, DOB and/or social and they look it up to verify you are a licensed driver in good standing.

U should be good. Few months back i got into an accident. I had left my wallet at home, i told the officer and showed the picture of my license. He quickly noted that id number and i was good. So ur id number is enough for the officer to pull up everything about ur license

Not my first choice. I'd print it on paper. Why would you want to give your photo to a cop while it was unlocked? He or she could look through it and find something else to charge you with.

If you have the paper copy and you have the police report where you reported it stolen, so long as you are only stopped for a traffic violation, you should be fine.

When you apply online, you can print off a temporary license that is valid for a certain number of days. I had to do this at the end of August when I lost my driver’s license. My husband was very upset that I hadn’t gone to get one in person as we were going on vacation several days after it expired. The license arrived before the printed temporary one was invalidated.

Supposedly if you have the number you are good. Never tested the theory.

I got pulled over and didn’t even have my license on me and nothing happened lol he said “as long as you have one, I can look that up, and you’re good”

These days they pull the car identification up by scanning the plate. They don't have to pull you over first. They have plate and speed lidar sitting on the car. You know they are active when you see the IRdot flicker. So if you have a valid reason to be pullover and ticket the amount worth the court while they will do that.

No, I've been in this situation. Was pulled over and did not have my physical license on me. I did have a picture of my license. I received a warning but was told I need to carry my physical license with me. This was in Orange for reference.

Maybe a ticket for not carrying ur identification or something like that. Depends on the cop prby more then anything honestly.

Somewhat related, I look forward to the day I can have an encrypted digital version on my phone that can just be transmitted when needed. I know a lot of you will hate that idea but I'm tired of carrying a wallet.

Also, if you aren't carrying your license in CT and you get a citation for it, you can generally show up at court and show them your license and the judge will waive the citation.

Carrying a valid drivers license when you are operating a motor vehicle is the law in CT, but if you are properly registered then the likely worst case is that you will be inconvenienced by a courtroom visit if that's your only offense.
