According to my oil company, it’s cleaner because they put additives in it that also clean my oil tank and lines!

More people need it versus company need.

It happened for a bit last year too. I made weekly trips to the gas station to keep my heat going. Right now I see heating oil between $5 and $5.25 or so, and diesel around $5.75.

One is profits. Oil companies take a percentage of the cost in profit. 15% of $2.50 is $0.37, but 15% of $5 is $0.75. Yet we have to buy the same number of gallons to heat our homes. You'd think heating oil and diesel would come from the same places though.

Supply chain lag? I'd think most local oil companies are dealing with a lot more volume than your local gas station.

LOL that’s bullshit. I’m in the trade. The only additives they put in is an anticoagulant and it actually makes it burn slightly worse, however it can go into lower temperatures before it starts to gel up.

Interesting, they sold it as “BioHeat Heating Oil” which was less sulfur and an additive like Lucus tuneup in a bottle.

Doesn’t surprise me, my oil tank is like 60 years old so it wouldn’t matter anyway. But that was their justification for the higher oil prices

Buy a woodstove. It's going to get really bad in the next few years for people with oil heat. Government wants us off of fossil fuels, but we have no alternative at this time. Can't go electric, or eversource will take every penny you have, and gas isn't available in most places.

I switched to Natural Gas on 2019. Best expense ever really. My oil furnace was from the 1960 and my heating bills were thru the roof.

I remember my pain back in 2008? when heating oil were about $4 per gallon.

Also remember that on December first, gas prices will go up by 25 cents a gallon. This is due to the tax break expiring.

It's going to be rough this winter.

Bio heating oil is different. It’s made by blending ultra-low sulfur heating oil with biodiesel which is made from soy, other vegetable oils, animal fats, recycled restaurant oils and other recycled grease sources.

7-day with 4 setpoints per day thermostat and learn to layer plus plan to change. We converted to propane, insulated and live cooler. Adjust temp if needed and thermostat resets at next time point so no need worry about setting the temp. I do not miss the cost, noise and maintenance.
