hi everyone, a friend from DC is working in Glastonbury for the week and I want to do a casual dinner/drinks evening Wed. night. I'd rather not go to a chain restaurant like Chilis. I'm not super familiar with Glastonbury and was hoping for some good recommendations. TIA!

Yep. Best beef place around.

When you get tired of beef give Max Fish a try.

Excellent Mexican food? Sayulita Restaurant in South Glastonbury.

Gilberts...I believe they have 2 outposts, so none of that chain bullshit, none of that sysco sadness and generic-ness. Order the rings. Other nice alternatives : First and Last for Italian, Sayulita (if you can get in) if not, Cotton Hollow Kitchen across the street

Sayulita and Cotton Hollow for sure. Can also take a nice walk on the trails behind Cotton Hollow.

For casual, I'd say Bin228 or Plan b. I've heard good things about Square Peg Pizza but haven't been there yet myself.

Square Peg was better when it first opened and was run by Tyler Anderson. Now it’s very meh

Only knock on plan B is that it’s pretty loud in there.

J Gilberts, but it’s pretty pricey. Cotton Hollow is amazing and reasonably priced. The beam house has very good cocktails. The red fox steakhouse just opened and their steaks are out of this world. Square Peg pizza has pretty good gourmet Pizza. Salulita (not quite sure how to spell it) has the best Mexican in town.

J Gilbert's is not casual dinner; it's a premium steakhouse. I love the spot but be prepared for premium prices. They have other entrees but to me, if you're going there, you get steak. It gets quite busy too, even on weeknights so a reservation is a good idea.

Beamhouse and Bin228 are more casual dining in my opinion, albeit a little upscale. They both have great menus. If you want Italian there's also Bricco (again, it's Glastonbury so it's a bit upscale). The diamond is a local sports bar, could be the vibe you're looking for. South Glastonbury has Sayulita for mid-high end Mexican and Cotton Hollow Kitchen for gastropub fare. There is also 2 Hopewell, upscale American bistro. Great food but a little pricey.

All good answers. We go to Maggie McFly's as well, like J Gilberts a small chain yes but has a large menu for both food and drinks.

Hi everyone, I'm sure no one will see this, but I wanted to thank you all for your suggestions. We ended up at Sayulita. The food took forever to come out of the kitchen but it was worth the wait (and the wait beforehand for the table). Definitely a new favorite. I will also keep the other suggestions in mind for future reference when dining in Glastonbury. thanks!!
