I think they need to open the train passed Waterbury, allow cheaper travel north and people would be able to go to New York more easily

I answered, but I don't think they will like how many times I suggested the revival of the trolley system or an equivalent. Oh. And saying that making roadways safe for pedestrians and bikes shouldn't mean drivers have to spend more time on the road? Lol why? Unless you are going to take away lanes to make pedestrian spaces? If it were safer and more feasible for people to commute by walking or biking wouldn't that free up the road...?

I would love to see CT and NY bring back plans for a bridge or tunnel across LI Sound, particularly one that would connect Bridgeport and Route 8 directly to Long Island. Such an investment would be a boon to both Long Island the Bridgeport area. I know it will never happen - government just doesn't take on such big projects anymore - but it's nice to dream.

Hey if we're dreaming, might as well dream of some high speed rail using that connection as well. It'd probably be the only way for a NYC-Boston line to reasonably hit both New Haven and Hartford, otherwise most routes seem to have to pick one or the other. And maybe it'd be marginally more effective at dodging NIMBYs as opposed to using the existing corridor?

I actually think that is something Amtrak has considered in recent years, at least on their "wish list"

Yeah, I think the full wish list would be something like two crossing lines, one going NYC-New Haven-Hartford-Boston and the other going NYC-New Haven-Providence-Boston. A fully connected rail network in the northeast would be a dream, I hope there's one day enough political capital to get it done.

I hope the same, it’s an issue that would sway my vote locally and nationally. It’s a realistic project, the best corridor in the country for such infrastructure, and we could def find the funding if we wanted as a nation

I mean a one-way ticket for the Bridgeport Ferry costs $64 for 1 car + driver. +$25 if you have any passengers.

Correct. And gas to drive 90+ miles around plus tolls already costs at least $20-25, never mind the lost time.

I think all depends on how much the govt is willing to spend vs. borrow vs. payback with tolls.

T system would be nice in the Waterbury region. Needing a car is lame. Would make health insurance much more affordable.

The question regarding "how much additional drive time would you be willing to have in order to improve safety" frankly felt very dystopian. Like imagine flipping that question the other way around, "how much increased risk would you be willing to inflict on non-drivers in order to cut your drive time by x minutes". I'm sure they didn't intend it to sound like that, but that's a very good look at how car oriented the default line of thought is.

Thank God metrocog is doing this, been passing on going to the next meeting I could to say exactly what I am about to here with far less cussing there. Grew up on the gbt system so I love it but I always saw some issues.

  1. System Map. Seriously I understand that routes can change but having blazers on the pole of the particular route with and another for the wider system with Street names and / or points of interest is fairly cheap to do.

At the very least a full pdf on gogbt.com of an overview of of the system. It's impossible to find and I'm not tech unsavy.

I know these are more expensive but reach goals:

  1. signal and Lane priority.

  2. more circular routes that reduce the going to the main hub for transfers and make the network more like a network.

With that smaller node bus stations would be a huge improvement.

  1. at least 20/7 service. We know 24/7 is a big ask but 20/7 or even 18/7 is reasonable service level for more people to even give up their cars.

Other than that:

  1. Far more transparency with route changes

  2. dedicated and branded Express services

They need more sidewalks. I think it’s silly that people without cars have to risk their lives going grocery shopping AND people with cars have to drive on what is a short walking distance because the roads are so unsafe

Also more bus stops once the sidewalks come because if I wanted to take the bus to the shopping plaza I’d have to go a whole hour and basically have the bus do the whole route because there’s no bus stop across the street from the plaza
