"Can I have Fries with that"

For anyone not initiated. You will get an earful if you ask for fries.

Potato chips or the door are the options.

That’s my one beef with them. GIVE ME FRIES OR GIVE ME DEATH! Or maybe fries cause death?

I only didn't get kicked out because i was with a friend who knew the staff, lol

Best dog I ever had was at the one in Middletown way way back. Have eaten at most of the current locations but I cannot recall Waterbury.

Definitely a good dog. My perfect dog is a burnt Glenwood Hummel with Blackie’s spicy relish.

Just fill a bag with the relish and inject it in my veins.

The relish was 1000 times better back in the day when they made it in house… my brother in law used to make it in back.

Is it me or have they gone down hill? Not sure when, may past two or three years? I think I heard they sold.

Last time I went, just two or three weeks ago, the dogs were fine as always. The meat sauce was just bland, though! Like, nothing. I used to associate it with a very strong note of what I thought was cumin, but this surprisingly flavorless.

When I was 18 , 9 and a birch , 2 bags of chips. Now 2 ( maybe a third ) still a bitch and no chips . Hands down my favorite hot dog ever . Love it there. People have asked me to try and describe It. I just drive them there . Then they get it .

I live literally right up the street. They’re definitely good but im not a huge fan of the small indoor space, its cramped to order and eat

Family name:

“Mary Mahoney left her home in County Kerry, Ireland in search of the American dream; she met and married Art Blackman, a Waterbury native. Together they bought a couple of acres of land on the Cheshire/Waterbury line. Their dream was to own a business and by 1925 they had opened an unassuming gas station. The Blackman’s gas station was a gathering spot for friends and neighbors; soon they were serving hungry patrons hot dogs smothered with the Blackman family’s homemade relish.”

Why the name?

Edit: Sorry, but if I’m going to recommend a place with such a name to friends and family, it wouldn’t hurt to know how it got said name in order to avoid any awkward conversations.
