Yes, I know I 'm an idiot and messed up but really hoping someone can help me still. In 2020, I bought a 2011 Nissan Rogue from out of state. I have the title that's in the name of the place I bought it from and all the paperwork for registration. I paid for it in cash. I was going to register it but then a relative gave me his much nicer, newer car. So me, being the dumbass I am, never registered the Nissan and it has been sitting in storage at someone's house since. Well, they contacted me last week saying I need to get the car out by the 15th so I really need to have it out asap. I'm not even trying to sell the car at this point even though I know I could for something decent, I just want it gone. I called a junk place and they said they wont take it because it's 2011 ("too new") and I dont have the title in my name. I dont live in that area anymore so I dont really have the time to go through the steps of registering it. I just really really don't want to deal with this anymore and I just want it gone.

Again, I know I was a total idiot, I should have taken care of it sometime in the last 2 years but here we are and I really need some help please.

Thank you!!

Donate it to any charity.

As someone mentioned, you can definitely call a charity and donate it..

Or if you know somebody with a pickup truck. You can rent a trailer to tow it from U-Haul and bring it to somewhere. That's a little more convenient for me to figure out what to do with it.

You can call a junkyard and they'll usually give you a small amount of money for it and usually will subtract 50-100 off the offer for them to pick it up. I've done this with cars with no titles and no wheels.

Edit: if it runs and drives I would just get it registered and sell it... Could be a few thousand for ya.

I haven't touched it in 2 years but I'm sure with some TLC, it'll be fine. I had no issues with it at all when I drove it. Has 120k miles on it. The problem is that I dont live in CT anymore and I work a really demanding job so I dont want to go through the process of registering. I know it's a stupid stupid way to go but I just want someone to take it off my hands.

Call the place you bought it. They will probably give you something for it.

Since you have all the sale paper work, maybe contact the DMV and make an appointment. You can make an appointment on their website.

Just call the local scrap metal place. Some will pick it up for free, others charge for the tow but then they give you the scrap value.

It’s better to donate it to charity

On a legal stand point you can’t legally sell it or donate it as you don’t really own it given the title still from the previous owner. Contact whoever is on the title and have it transferred to you. Donating doesn’t work because the title needs to be transferred anyways.

You can be accused of theft should you attempt to sell the vehicle when it’s technically not yours even though you bought it.

Been there done that with a 2006 Jeep Wrangler from New York.

The best analogy would be like you buying a second hand iPhone that is iCloud Locked. You technically own it, but the person’s account is still on it and it won’t let you change ownership until the previous owner removes the lock. If the previous owner wants to be a dick, they can accuse you of theft.

Also, just sell it cheap. Might as well profit from it. $500 will motivate people to drive across the state for a running vehicle.

You can’t really do anything until the title is transferred to you. In a sense, you’re essentially moving around someone else’s property.

Contact the DMV to help you out, or contact the previous owner to finish the transfer.

Donating doesn’t work because the charity needs the title that’s under your name to complete the process. The reason why this requirement exists because if it didn’t, I could randomly take someone else’s vehicle in some parking lot and donate it.

Scrapping is pointless for the same reason. You need the title as it’s illegal to scrap a vehicle without authorization of the owner on the title.

Letting someone else have it without proper title transfer also have some legal implications. You’re in for a bigger headache if you don’t do this properly. You technically can’t even register the vehicle if it’s not under your name.

Leave parked on a street. It'll be reported as abandoned and towed.

Maybe you can contact a local tech school with an automotive program? Maybe they'd take it and fix it up.

I know Wilcox Tech in Meriden had an automotive program.
