Plenty of restaurants in the center and blue back square if you enjoy good food.. Depending on what day of the week, you may need to make reservations days in advance at some places though.

Lots of good museums, New Britain museum of art, the Mark Twain House, the Wadsworth, Hill Stead, etc.

First Night (January 1st) in Hartford is pretty fun. It starts during the day if you have kids, and has carriage rides around the park, the historical merry go round is open, and the Soldiers and Sailors memorial arch is open to visit. Fireworks in the evening.

West Hartford Main St. and Blueback Square are great for walking, eating, and shopping.

Elizabeth Park is beautiful all year long, but you'll be here for the least beautiful season to visit.

Wadsworth Athenaeum in Hartford is a world class art museum, and the CT Science Center is loads of fun if you have kids.

Also, Harry's Pizza is the best pizza in the region, and Goldbergs Bagels are the best in the state (both in West Hartford).

Have you had Doro Marketplace by chance? A friend said their breakfast is amazing.

Never been, but I've also never seen the parking lot empty, so that's a good sign.

Vusit the Noah Webster House in West Hartford or hike up to Heublein Tower for a great view. Hartford is close, you can go ice skating in downtown Hartford's Bushnell Park pond, also, the visit the Connecticut Science Center, Wadsworth Atheneum or Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe houses in Hartford.
