Hey everyone. Curious if anyone here has a CT hunting license. I want to start getting into hunting, and eventually get my license. Are there certain classes I must take prior to officially going for my license? Is there a specific place I can register for these classes if so? I hear you can take them online, but have also heard firearm safety courses are in person only. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can take the course online and sign up for a field/range day.

You can take classes in person at most sportsman’s clubs that are both classroom and field.

You should probably grab a pistol permit too - that would cover long guns and ammo permits.

Yup and by the end of the day you will have spent hundreds of dollars and many hours just to have the right to hunt. Connecticut is going to Connecticut!

And also, don't plan to actually try and hunt or buy a gun for a few months after you submit the paperwork

People have guided you to the correct places within DEEP to get your class & license, but you should also try to find a friend or someone with a bit of experience as well, so they can show you the ropes for a season or two. Possibly look into joining a rod & gun/hunting & fishing club & see if members can give you some guidance as well.
