Eat something. Breathe.

It can be annoying, but it isn't worth your peace of mind.

Yeah fair enough. Maybe let them know nicely that they should let people know on the phone that chips are now a dollar extra. You didn't know this because in the last they were always included. That's all. Not the end of the world but I see where you're coming from.

Jesus Christ on a stick! Everyone berating this person should step off. OP said ANNOYED, not ready to go on a murderous rampage or threaten to never eat at the restaurant again.

Lol thanks, yea just a little annoyed and now I know for next time. I really do understand the struggle they face. My sister owns a salon and employs about 8 people. She thought Covid was going to be the end of her business because of the costs to reopen.

Weekend literally dedicated to giving thanks, says they have food at home, writes gigantic paragraph complaining about having to pay 99c for fucking chips on Reddit, and the people “berating” them need to step off? LOL

Truly staggering logic. You cannot make this kind of shit up. I love the internet

That would grind my gears as well. At that price point they can throw in some chips.

Stop at a 7-11 and buy a few bags....

Or, go to a Stop and Shop for a better selection.

With inflation, things change, however they should say as you went to pick up if you wanted them and addto the order before ringing you out.

Enjoy the Mexican dinner!

I get it. It’s annoying. There’s a lot of that lately it seems. I’ve also noticed prices are often not what they are listed on the menu for take out places. I have just stopped ordering from certain places that appear to be gouging.

Yea, I try to avoid using doordash or Uber eats as they tend to have higher prices on their platforms (and I understand why). I often get doordash gift cards from my employer and will wait until I have two or three so it doesn’t cost me anything lol.

I can relate. Ordered a salad yesterday, and asked for 2 dressings. All paid up and the girl comes up to me after I paid and says she has to charge me another $1.50 for the extra side. Had to swipe my card for a whole $1.50.

I totally understand, as everything that used to be cheap or barely affect their bottom line they used to let slide, but every penny now counts and I am sure it’s frustrating for both sides, consumer and establishment.

First, you’re never wrong to feel annoyed.

Second, this is where I think small business can and should make the difference to win people back from chains. If the person was the owner or a long time employee, she could have easily said “We just changed this policy so I’ll throw it in for free this time.” That both makes you feel good, identifies you as a repeat customer, and is an easy win for the restaurant that only costs a few cents. That’s a lot better than risking an irritated customer who never comes back.

Regardless not a big deal, as you’ve responded, and sounds like you had a great dinner!

I did, it was great and will be going back. I really appreciate your comment too! I wish there was still a strong sense of customer service and employees felt empowered to make those quick calls. I worked at a family owned restaurant in East Haven while I was in college. We were always encouraged to do the right thing and the owners never batted an eye if we asked to give a round of drinks, an app, or dessert for free. I get that not every place is like that but it used to make me feel good knowing the owners had my back.

If it’s the one in the run down looking house, I’m not surprised. Not had great luck there.

That stinks! I’ve been going for years and always had good experiences. I’ve only eaten in the restaurant a few times (once upstairs) and it is really small in there. But I found that what they lack for in space - they make up for it with tequila in your margarita 🙃
