Is it just me or is a big part of the problem that people aren't properly taking care of their own trees. I see so many trees in our town that need work but people don't want to pay for it, then they complain about Eversource when the trees take out power lines.

It's also crazy to me when I see people with $90k vehicles and they don't even have a portable generator and a properly set up electrical panel. It's not a big expense compared to your overpriced SUV.

I have an in law like that. Her and her husband (no kids) have a decent house, new pickup truck and SUV, multiple vacations every year. Last year they wanted to know if they could borrow one of my generators if they lost power. Big no from me.

Lots of people don't comprehend that utility companies own the wires, not the trees. They ask permission to trim or remove trees, and if you say no, they can't touch it beyond a very small window around the wires as it is not their property. So if you have a neighbor that won't let them take the trees down, it's actually his fault your lights went out.
