Providence but Rhode Island made a stink about it passing through their reservoirs. I-384 was signed I-84 in the '80s, and current I-84 was signed I-86. I still would have followed the route 6 alignment and terminated it at 395 or at route 6 just before the reservoirs in RI.

It's why there is that highway bit of Rt 6 near willimantic. It was part of it as well.
