I need to get my brakes done, and I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations for a decent but affordable mechanic in the Middletown area? I've gone to Firestone in the past, but I wasn't really happy with the service there. Mostly I'm looking for a place that isn't going to charge insane amounts of money for the work. Thanks.

Marty's on Middlefield st. He's honest. My whole family goes to him.

Bob's or Keiths in Middletown are both great guys. Keith tends to be busier bc his shop is small.

And fwiw... brakes are pretty easy. If you can't do it yourself (you can), any mechanic is going to be able to do it for you. Just get a couple quotes and pick whoever.

I live in an apartment complex so I don’t have anywhere to do any work myself unfortunately. My biggest concern is that I haven’t been here long enough to know which mechanics are good and honest, and I really don’t want to learn by getting my brakes done at a shady mechanic.

Gotcha. Just call a few different places and get an estimate.

Do you know if you need just pads? Calipers and/or rotors? I'd ask about prices for each.

Anyone but a sketchy backyard mechanic is going to be able to do brakes. Probably the most frequent repair they so other than oil.

Yes, wholesome is how I would describe him- very nice guy. He did some work for me way back when he opened his prior location about 10-12 years ago and made a solid impression.

Hometown Garage in Portland. They are honest and prices are fair.

Kensington Auto, Town Line auto - both in Berlin. Guys at modern tire on the pike have always been solid but that’s a high volume shop

I know you didn't say Meriden, but Esposito's automotive and Perreault radiator on West Main Street are good. They never let my family down.

Quality Auto on main street in Cromwell. Priced fair, quick, explains everything in detail.

Andre is a great guy and patient. Recently had mine done and can't help but rave about the service I received.

What does insane amounts of money mean to you? Paying for car repairs is never fun.

Marty's in middletown I've heard good things about. Kensington automotive is an honest guy too. If you have a European car, Tripple B in Berlin is also excellent. I just don't like Kensington auto because he doesn't let me supply my own parts.
