So I have a mountain bike that I am trying to swap out for a lightweight road bike. I have done so much searching on facebook marketplace but I have yet to find a bike that suits me for the right price. I am looking for a used bike so I will be able to spend less than $300. Does anyone have any recommendations besides facebook marketplace? I've heard that bike swaps are a thing but not sure how they work, nor when they are.

Any ideas/tips would be greatly appreciated!

I would try Craigslist and specify buy/barter deals.

Also there are always estate sales happening year round. I’ve seen some real gems for under $300.

I usually prioritize the wealthiest estate sales first since most people usually buy bikes, but only a few actually use them a lot.

I would use pinkbike for sure.

Really your best option is multiple sites... craigslist, pinkbike, offerup, fb marketplace, etc.

I would see how you fare at Trek (Newington), Bicycles East (Glastonbury), and of course I forgot what the Berlin store is called. They’d be a better choice to call and see what’s up.

I’ve got a vintage road bike and am looking for a smaller, more rugged bike. Do you know the model of your mtn bike/any pics?

Bikes are expensive right now. What MTB do you have? Might be worth more than you think. But also the road bike will consequently cost more than you think especially for a lightweight one. If your MTB is good spec and you're looking for a trade in the. Try Airline Cycles in East Hampton or Storrs Cycle Center. You won't get a great bike for sub $300 but they should do you alright on a trade if yours is decent or they might help you find something they're really good guys at both stores.
