I think I'm more surprised to see they brought down the Foxon Park sodas.

Yes, the server told me every Pepe's location serves Foxon Park. That was the best surprise, considering I now live out of state and don't have to drive to CT to get it

Not terrible from east haven to MD.... Hopefully they make more than that one delivery lol!

I once ate at a BBQ place in Tallahassee FL that served Foxon Park. It was a pleasant surprise.

Quite a few of us told you Pepe's has been going south for a while.

( Unsure if I should show myself the door. )

I can see them expanding into Florida, but a random mall in Maryland? That surprised me

Lol, woosh. He means they're crap now that they franchised. Not the same pizza, barely the same people, and certainly not what the original owner had in mind...

amp_atx OP t1_j8t1wzt wrote

lol, I read the italicized part again. So it's not the same as experiencing the original Pepe's, but it's definitely not "crap" like Sbarro or Dominoes.

amp_atx OP t1_j8t5tf4 wrote

The main difference I saw in the menu was that the chain Pepe's use canned, not fresh clams in their pizzas.

Consistent-Flight-20 t1_j8t4ks7 wrote

Agreed. It's only the original New Haven location for me. I don't even bother with the pop ups here in CT. It's just not the same.

Looks alot like the Mohegan sun one

amp_atx OP t1_j8q3cdb wrote

It's a little smaller than Mohegan but similar layout. This and Mohegan are the only "chain" Pepe's I've been to, so I don't know how the others compare.

charmed_fandomgal t1_j8t2kld wrote

Is the Mohegan sun one any good? Been interested in trying Pepe’s but don’t know if it’s worth it to go to east haven as having to drive and park in the city tends to make me nervous but I live close enough to Mohegan

I’d eat dinner at Krispy Kreme before going back to the one at the Sun.

Pepe’s is great if you eat it 5 seconds within it coming out of the oven.

The families sold out and just want to make as much money as they can. It’s a shame.

Selling out? Are you opposed to making money?

I think it’s more about the quality slipping that’s attached to the name for what they’re known. It’s a common theme for places that have a renowned following that try to grow bigger than they should.

They start focusing on quantity rather than quality. You have to. Oftentimes, the care and preparation of the product also suffer because you bring in employees (non-family members) that haven’t been immersed in the “love” and pride of the business and don’t put the same passion into it.

I went down to DC with my parents a few years ago. We stayed at a hotel in the Bethesda area and there was a place called Pete's New Haven Pizza, or something like that. Not too bad either.

4

Frankie_Wilde t1_j8podnv wrote

Any good? Been incredibly disappointed with them lately

3

amp_atx OP t1_j8q3lwe wrote

The crust was good, but the toppings slid off of the pie. The cheese wasn't completely baked into the pizza, almost like they didn't want to burn it too much. Having Foxon Park saved the experience. Overall not bad compared to what other places call pizza around here.

From Montgomery Co. (Kind of) Live in Foxon Park, East Haven. This is cool. How did the soda travel so far? I have always said, the only pizza outside of New Haven that is good is Ledo's.

According to their website they have chains all the way down to Florida. I’m all for it, it’s nice to have decent pizza when traveling. Other than them I tend not to trust pizza south of NJ

More like the new Pizzeria Uno.

Chicago's original Uno is legit, but the chain bastardized the name.

Was going to bring my buddy to one in mass cause hes never had New haven style but we checked it out and the prices were just stupid so we went and got local pizza instead. It's one thing for the original location but the chains are overpriced too which is just nuts
