To get them out, I don’t know…but to keep them out, most homes in my area put plastic or metal cages over them. I never had birds get into mine since they prefer the two story homes around my single story, but I put plastic cages on mine as a preventative measure. I got them at the local Lowes.

We had to call a pest control service to get the birds out of ours, I'm not sure if it's something you want to DIY (birds can be pretty dirty).

As for prevention, they sell plastic cages for this purpose at pretty much any local hardware store as u/14KL pointed out. When we called out the service, they installed the cages as part of the removal.

Tape a rubber snake to the vent

To get them out, get a dryer vent brush from Home Depot or the like. To keep them out they sell cages or mesh. Avoid the mesh, they will rip it right off.

Get your neighbors cat. Let them go to work for a few days
