The other day my dryer (ds4500eb0ww) popped and smelled. I took it apart and see that the coil had broken. I ordered the whole coil unit and it was an easy replacement until I messed up. I left one wire undone and it is the main power to the coil.

As you can imagine it welded itself to the dryer housing. I replaced the spade connector and double checked my work a second time. All the wires are on. I can now start the dryer but there is no heat.

I checked the breaker and both breakers are on. The thermal fuse has continuity. Before I start throwing parts at, is there anywhere to start looking?

Have you tried to reset the breakers? The drum will run with only 120v, but the heating element needs 220v.

Thanks. Checked those. It’s an attached double breaker. I did flip them off and back on to double check. No dice.

Check the control board for any blown glass fuses if you aren't getting 220VAC (in the US) between both spade connectors on the new coil

I don’t see any control boards. It’s a pretty old dryer. There looks to be a block where several wires connect on the side of the motor. It’s hard to get to are there fuses there possibly.

Try that, and make sure those connections are tight. Make sure the dryer is unplugged before you tighten

Do you have to a multimeter?

I do have a multimeter. I checked the thermal fuse and it has continuity. I don’t know anything else to check. Those were the main search results.

Check that the heating element has 240 volts across the inputs when the power is on. Be very careful when you're doing this, do not short anything and do not touch anything electrical with your body.

Just a thought. Are you setting your dryer to a point in its cycle where it should be heating?

I was testing my gas dryer and thought i had fucked it up, but it turns out that my dryer just tumbles near the end of the cycle. Make sure you are setting it to a part of the cycle where it heats up when you are testing it.

I’ll double check but I’m pretty sure it was. Before it broke the setting it was on heated the old coil.

Turn it on and check if that melted wire gets any voltage. Probably a blown fuse somewhere
