I inherited this armoire from a friend, but it came with unassembled shelves and no hardware. What screw or dowel do I need to attach these shelves? The holes in the armoire interior are 1/8” in diameter, and the holes in the shelves are 3/8” in diameter with a smaller hole inside that. I’ve assembled my fair share of furniture, but I haven’t seen anything exactly like this before.

Not sure the size, but if you search for 'furniture cam locks' you should be able to find what you need.

Pretty safe assumption that these shelves were designed to also add to the rigidity of the cabinet

Exactly this. You're sometimes supposed to put the shelf in before you put the second side on as well, as otherwise you wouldn't be able to bet the pins into both holes.

It might not be exactly these, but they're this kind of shelf pin: https://www.amazon.com/IKEA-Billy-Shelf-Pins-131372/dp/B07MYTBQV8

The idea is that you put the pins in the armoire and the shelf drops onto the rounded bit, locking it into place. That way the shelf can't slide off the pins.

And actually it might be those, do you know if your friend got it from ikea?

oh these look great, i might throw these on my next amazon order. I think it was either Ikea or Target. Gave Target’s website a look and didn’t find anything, I’ll see if I have better luck with Ikea

If it's from IKEA you can usually request parts like this for free.
