Unable to remove the bathtub faucet

Am looking to seal the gap around valve body, as I suspect water could be dripping through that gap behind the wall. I notice dampness around the bath tub on the floor after taking long shower.

This only happens during shower and not while just keeping the tub spout open.

I removed the nut on the middle faucet that is turned to switch between tub spout and shower. But the handle wont come off. Feels like a spring mechanism inside that pulls it back once I release.

How do I remove it?

First, it's more likely that you have a leak in the shower riser or at the shower arm ell or connection point. But, these are often seized on, and unless you have a full set of tools and a good shutoff, attempting removal can be disastrous. Sometimes you can get lucky with penetrating oil or muriatic acid to break up the calcium/lime, but a lot of the time, you need to swap valves, unless the handle style is fairly universal and can be replaced after cutting it off of the stem.

Ditto what he said, unless you are prepared to go all the way( isn’t all plumbing like this?) can you get to the back side of the plumbing?

Take the center cap off with a small flat head screwdriver. Then inside should be another screws to remove the innards if you will. Bestie water is turned off at the shower or in the main line first however.

Have the same ones in all my bathrooms. Got very good at rebuilding them. Take the center screw out (obviously) then you’ll have to use a slide hammer with the jaw attachment. I tried EVERYTHING you can think of, this is the only thing that finally worked. They get corroded and stuck on.
