Looking for advice or guidance on fixing this annoyance.
We have a standard 1980's era countertop (Formica over particle board), and the wood screws that were anchoring our dishwasher both stripped free.
Any way to rectify this without involving changes to the countertops?
This, I keep dowel stock handy for fixing stripped holes. Just gotta cut to size, drill out the stripped hole and glue it in place.
They make mounts for use on quartz countertops that are epoxied to the underside of the counter. I think it would be a good solution without risking running a screw through the top surface. They're little metal plates with machine threads, comes with machine screws. I just installed my own quartz and used them and they worked perfectly. Set of two was maybe $3. They were in the countertop area of the big home improvement store. You would also need a tube of epoxy.
It depends upon the condition of the particle board, but longer and thicker screws would be my first inclination. If the particle board is too torn up, you can fill it in with an epoxy wood filler and screw into that after it sets.
Put a few toothpicks covered in wood glue in the holes and let the glue dry then cut them flush and put the screws back in
Use bigger screws or drill out the holes to the size of a dowel rod and then glue the dowel rod in place then reinstall screws.
On mine I was able to rotate or move the mount on the dishwasher and was able to screw into a clean spot.
As a bodge to get by on the spot, I've put match sticks in the holes and wound the screw back in.
Look at putting in insert nuts and bolt it down. Or a bolt through and nut on the other side.
Super glue Cotton balls and pack into striped area. Re screw.
You can also screw through the sides of dishwasher into cabinets. Be careful of screw length, but most dishwashers have built in spots to do this. Some behind a trim plug.
If top is only option, epoxy wood filler works great just predrill after epoxy sets. If you have dishwasher out, consider sealing the bottom of counter above dishwasher. Many dishwashers vent to the top and that may have softened the pressed wood that the screw was in.
What about granite countertops? Epoxy fill?

Hah! That's where I am right now. And while I don't seem to have any trouble grasping physics, nobody else in my house seems to understand that having both loaded racks extended simultaneously will cause the entire machine to pitch forward.
