Best to get a new cushion cover, painting fabric is not a good long lasting solution even with fabrics specific paint. If the cushion is white you could use a rit dye to change the color but you likely won’t be getting a deep red from that. A new cover cost less than any of the diy options you could try and will be leaps and bounds better in terms of quality, durability, and actually being the color you want.

I've seen videos online and from Pinterest that show painting fabric. You'd need to use fabric specific paint, not just ordinary spray paint. I don't know how long an option like this would work.

I would attempt to make a new cover over trying to paint fabric.

Nope nope nope nope. Paint isn’t meant to flex and move around, it’ll peel off all raggedy and be impossible to clean up.

If you don’t want to buy a new cover, fabric dye is cheap and easy to work with (easier than spray paint, really, just do it outside in a bucket or something, and wear gloves…) but if at all possible you’ll want to test on a swatch of the same fabric to check the color; it can vary a lot depending on the material.

If I were to use fabric dye would I need to take the fabric off the seat. I detached it from the chair itself but the fabric is still wrapped around the seat

You’d need to take the fabric off the chair if you were going to to spray paint it, too ¯_(ツ)_/¯

This is one of those things where trying to save time by skipping a step or two is going to end up costing way more time cleaning up your mistakes — do it right or don’t bother

Yes, there are wonderful new paints that can be used on fabrics/upholstery.
All you need to do is make certain that your product says so on the label.

Just google up "spray+paint+fabric" for specific products.
