I've made myself a Dungeon Master screen by gluing strips of leather to sheets of plywood. The leather strips act as hinges to fold the screen up.

Now the issue is I've tried 3 different glues and they've all come loose after some time.

First one was UHU spray glue, explicitly stating it works for leather and wood. This loosened after a few hours Second was two-component glue from Araldite, stated to work for all materials. This never really held in the first place. Third was hot glue. This has been working the best so far but now, after some weeks, even this has started to let go.

The plywood is untreated but has some non-covering overspray from acrylic spray paint. I've roughened the surface with sand paper before gluing. As for the leather, I'm trying to glue the rough side, not the smooth side.

Anyone know what glue I should use? Or where I went wrong in my process?

If you sanded and didn't clean it the particles of dust could stop it from sticking. Are you using clamps?

Try E-6000 and clamp it overnight. Can get it at Michaels or on Amazon.

You might try some decorative leather upholstery tacks or screws with the glue as well

Many people overestimate the effectiveness of glue. It works well in some cases, OK in others and piss poor in others. Contact cement is typically used by shoemakers when working with leather, but they also add stitches and nails. I would add a few screws and washers to distribute the load

Contact cement is the way to go. And some sort of physical fastener will improve the situation. Tacks, staples, nails or screws. I'd use some tacks.

Mechanical fasteners through a larger piece of wood strip would clamp it in place. The leather would remain as your hinge. Dare to say look a tad better too.

When I made my most recent dice tray, I just used yellow/wood glue and about 50lbs of weight to ensure an even bond between the wood and sueded leather. Still holding great after a few months.

Is there enough play between the plywood boards so they don't lever against eachother?
