I have one of these on my small (foot space wise) porch so you have to step over the metal base to get to the door. Any really simple ideas on how to cover the base? We are not crafty or handy people in the slightest but we can try!

Simplest would be just some black tape. A door mat could work too.

What about buying one of those $8 4x6 commercial entry Mats from Walmart or the Depot. Cut a holes to drop it over the stand pegs and maybe put some mulch or other body parts spewed about on it.

Is there some way you can fasten his neck to the wall in two spots? He seems pretty rigid, some weight at the base (maybe put him in some real boots?) and having him attached somewhere might let you take the metal base away entirely

His actual frame is steel bars inside so he requires the frame to hold him up! The bones are hollow plastic! Or as my seven year olds said “the skeleton has a skeleton!” 🤣

Make a bunch of child shaped pillows out of old kids clothes and pad the base of the skeleton with the bodies!
