We bought a house a few months ago that has turned into one catastrophe after another (and discovering a lot of things that were covered up). If I could go back in time I never would have bought it but that’s done now…

The back/side yard was quite neglected, it appeared to be a muddy mess of rocks and dirt. I tried to plant a line of arborvitae trees along the fence line today only to discover a layer of putting green a few inches below the dirt and rocks - and it covers nearly the entire fenced yard space 🤦‍♀️😭 how on earth will I remove this and rehab it into a usable yard? I cannot afford to hired a landscaping company to do this right now, we are also dealing with some massive demo inside as well.

Update: I want to thank everyone for all the helpful advice. It was honestly just nice to hear a lot of options and help talk me off a ledge of anxiety about this house that has been a lot more work than we ever bargained for. I ended up remembering we have a small battery powered chainsaw - I was able to cut through the turf quickly and easily with it and got all the trees in the ground. There was a layer of finely crushed rocks under it, but it was quite shallow with soil underneath. Hopefully I can get back out there in the spring and remove all of it.
