Long story.
Painting old wardrobe both inside and out and replacing old hinges. Tried inset and overlay hinges, both rub the marked corner on the exterior structure.
Adjustment is limited to the "frame" and the hinge is placed in a weird interior "step"..
What can I do? Should I just chamfer that exterior edge of the door?

What's wrong with the old hinges? I assume they worked. Can't they be cleaned? Might be easier than trying to find new ones.
As someone said on the other post planing might be easiest. Since it's painted you don't have to worry too much about the finish, any gouges or unevenness can be covered by wood fill. Would also help balance the gap.
The hinges are mostly broken.
Most say to just make it shorter. Easier said than done :D
That's where the wood fill and paint come in. ;)
If you've got a steady hand 30 seconds with a hand planer, or 2 minutes with a sharp chisel. If you don't 10 minutes with sandpaper and a block. Correct your errors with the wood fill, sand it true and then paint.
Your reveals do look tight in the photos. Measure the door, measure the frame. Door should be 1/4" less. If it is less, than you should trim the doors. If you don't have the tools or the skill, contact a cabinet maker to rip these down. They should charge you no more than $100.
That is indeed true. The gap is very short. What bothers me is that with the old hinges this kinda of worked, with all of the new ones the door always does a little movement to the exterior (wall side) that collides with the "frame".
Adding to that nothing is actually squared, everything is bent in some way. Very poor workmanship.
It is not necessarily poor workmanship. Things may have settled or warped a little over time. It is just how wood and buildings are.

Can you measure the interior dimension of the frame and exterior dimension of the wood for me? The frame should be 1/4" larger than the door. I guess it is possible the multiple layers of paint over the years have caused this to be closer to 1/8" or 3/16", it looks a little tight in the picture. It may need to be cut down a a smidge just to make everything work again.
If it is the right dimensions then its really tough to give good advice without getting my hands on things. Reasonably as long as you have a 1/8" reveal all around and the correct hinges you should be able to adjust them so they function appropriately. Did you mount the new hinges following the instructions of the new hinges or in the same mounting position as the old? they may not be directly equivilant in all respects.
