I am trying to mount a set of Klipsch speakers on the wall in my living room. Each satellite speaker weighs about 8 pounds, is about 12" tall, 6.5" wide, and 7.5" deep. To keep it somewhat simple, I was going to buy a 1"x8"x8' pine board, and put together an L-shaped "shelf". The back of the shelf would be about 11" tall (doesn't need to be as tall as the speaker itself), and then the bottom part would be about 8" deep, and I was going to join to the boards together with a couple dowels, wood glue, and wood screws.
In my incredibly badly laid out diagram, the blue parts are the shelf, the yellow arrow indicates alternating dowels and wood screws of the 8" width of the board, and the red arrows are 2 wood screws to hold the whole thing on the wall, mounted to wall studs. Should this shelf be strong enough to hold an 8 pound speaker? Do I need to add some bracing on the sides maybe?

Turn your shelves upside down and add a triangular brace to strengthen it
