Tilt up Soundbar

So as the topic kinda states, I need to tilt up my soundbar.

It’s crooked because of 1: It’s just heavy 2: The TV itself is a bit tilted to make a better watching experience.

Will consider all ideas and options, one without tools would be really preferable, not against it, I just don’t have tools and would have to borrow them and so on, so that would be a pain in the *** to me :)

What I’m using is:

  • LG C1 83 Inch TV
  • Sony HT - A7000 Soundbar and using the included wall mount brackets
  • Vogels Thin 550 TV mount
  • Vogels Sound 1250 Soundbar mount that’s being attached to the TV’s mount :)

I’ve also added a link to the setup I’m having right now, the iPad I used to take the photo was being held straight, so You can see the incline there :)

If I’m missing something, just ask :)

So far the only good idea that I got was to resize the triangle door stoppers, drill a sloped hole in it and get a longer screw, and to put them between the Sony’s mounting brackets and the Soundbar itself, hopefully You got the idea. But the problem is all the tools needed… and to make it look nice, I would have to paint it and so on…

It’s not attached to ceiling :D and it’s a pretty big Tv so putting it “normally” 20cm from ground or so just looks dumb… :) so nope, it looks great now :)))

And that means that I didn’t try to look at it on a Tv longboard ? :D it’s around 30cm from ceiling :)

Don’t let the haters get to you. I’ve mounted my TVs high for decades now and it’s wonderful. When I’m laying in bed or sitting in my recliner I don’t want to have to look at the floor.

I’m also with the other guy. Just grab the sound bar and bend. You’ll be fine.

I’ve seen this pop up on Reddit all the time. People like to believe there is a scientifically exact place your TV should be. But I don’t sit on my grandmas old hard couch when I watch tv and I like to put my knees up when I’m in my recliner. So if I put it where Reddit demands I put it, I can’t see it.

But apparently I’m the one that’s wrong. 🤷‍♂️

:D Exactly :) + im also watching mine from kitchen while cooking :) Just have to use these 83 inches of perfection here = im doing it while standing sooo… but the other commenters will definitely say what im doing wrong here :) Maybe a second TV ?, like the ones with VHS tape because that’s the best media storage thingy ? :D But to be honest, if You have nothing good to say here, keep it to yourself :) im not asking if i should put my TV somewhere else :) I have a pretty exact description of my problem :)

Thought about that, they are kind a strong :D so to bend them equally and the right amount its pretty hard…

I'm looking at the new pictures, and it looks like you could grab the soundbar right where those angled mounting brackets are with both hands and bend it up, maybe?

Im not sure if it’s a good idea. The Tv is really heavy, and the mounting brackets are connected to the ones that hold Tv so I would definitely have to remove the Soundbar before I’m trying to bend something, if it was a 500$ Tv then no problem :D but with this beast, kinda not willing to risk that. And if I remove them, then there comes the problem with equally bending to the right angle…

That would make it a bit higher, my problem ist just the angle, the spacing and so on from Tv is pretty spot on, and I even need the small gap there because of upfiring speakers :)

Yes, the angle brackets would be tricky to duplicate a precise bend. Other than a vise with both clamped in at the exact angle is about the only thing that I can think of.

That’s still something :) thanks for the input ! :) maybe someone else here comes with a genius plan :)) I’m not in hurry, but the sound kinda goes down so I’m not using the whole potential here :)

Huh wouldn’t washers in the bottom work? Maybe metal angles to keep the back down?

But wouldn’t the most reasonable solution be to just place the TV on a lowboard? It’s mounted way too high anyway and you do seem to have enough space below.

It’s not to high :) longboard and such, tried, don’t like the look and it was like 10-15 cm lower so almost no difference there, and since I’m using it also in different directions and so on, it’s the best placement :) still, I didn’t quite get You’re idea about washers, what You’ve meant with that ?

Wow that TV is mounted quite high. You might want to consider moving it down so that it doesn't need to be tilted, thus solving your speaker bracket issue at the same time.

Gosh that's high. I honestly still prefer tv stands and use them because I don't want to hurt my neck looking up. Also that wire would drive me insane. The speaker looks fine from here relative to the tv.

Thanks for sharing the detailed photos. I see two solutions and neither requires special tools.

1- At the rear bracket with the silver screw, add a shim to the bottom outside corners between the narrow bracket and the sound bar’s thick L bracket. This will change the angle and remain completely hidden.

2- On the bottom of the sound bar add shims between the bar and bracket in front of the mounting screw. Add too many and you’ll see it though.

You may need a combination of both of these to get the angle you want. The TV mount should have come with multiple washers and spacers that should work for what you need here.

Firstly thanks for not commenting on the TV being to high, not on grandmas table, or on a lowhighwhatever board :) I had to google what a Shim is, so its a screw in a screw like a screw with a hole in it to screw another screw and sorry, but i just don’t get what You’re meaning here and how i could get the solution here…

What you just described is a washer. A washer can be used as a shim though. A shim is anything that creates space (think of it like a small wedge). You need to create space in certain areas to change the overall angle.

Got it ! Super simple :) But doesn’t that make a huge gap in reliability there ? Because it would be resting on one corner there and it’s a pretty heavy sound bar…

You will be using thin shims to make the angle adjustments. There will still be plenty of threads on the mounting screws holding it in. Also, this is stationary and not in a moving/vibrating car so it doesn’t take much for it to stay in place.

If you needed thick shims for the rear area to get your perfect angle it would be worth buying longer screws to give you peace of mind. Just make sure they’re not too long and go through into your bar.

Woohoo Case closed ! :) I’m pretty sure that’s not exactly what You’ve meant but i kinda reworked You’re idea :) The one peace solution is for a bigger angle and the two part thing is for smaller corrections :) Now just measuring and deciding ! :) Thanks !!! :)

Nice work! Keep in mind, if you angle it up too high you will easily see the bar’s bottom brackets.

If you’re adding shims to only the rear mount near the silver screw it won’t need much thickness to make a decent change in the bar’s front angle. You could test it by even folding a piece of paper in half five times and slipping that in (with bar removed for safety-loosen the screw, insert shim, retighten screw).

You can try putting washers on the attachment bolts between the brackets and the TV to shim the top of the brackets. Or just remove the sound bar from the TV and mount it to the wall.
