Are picture hanging hook safe to use in drywall?

We put in those picture hanging hooks that use a nail at an angle to hang a 20lb mirror. But we couldn't get it centered on wall with the studs. So we nailed them to drywall. Will this be safe? I believe they're rated for 100lb, they were the biggest hooks in a 10-100lb kit.

This subreddit doesn't allow pictures with help posts (strange...)

Thanks for any help! I have a toddler and want to make sure he's 100% safe.

Get a dry wall anchor.

I personally wouldn't hang anything more than 20lbs without a stud but that's me.

It is 18.5lbs. But hmm okay, I can't seem to find any dry wall anchors that incorporate a hook to hook the mirror onto.

Probably just wouldn't seem as secure with the triangle hooks that are there for mounting. The back does say only to use with provided hooks, but it's a hand me down, they didn't come with it. Weird you think drywall anchors that come with a hook would be more common.

also I think the hooks are sold separate from the anchors

It says do not use wire on the back. But hmm okay I was at Walmart and didn't see any. Maybe I'll check Hone Depot or Amazon.

You can get metal drywall anchors with a hook or a bare plastic anchor plus separate hook to screw in. Both should be fine but imo first option is better.

We absolutely do allow it. You need to paste the picture link into the text of your post.

Is the mirror just glass or is it framed. If it is just glass they make mounts specifically for mirrors which attack with screws so you can use drywall anchors. If the picture hanging hooks are going to push the mirror out from wall that is a accident waiting to happen and will probably break the mirror eventually. If the mirror is framed and uses a wire on the back you might be fine with the picture hooks, but drywall anchor and screw will be much stronger.

It is framed. But it has two triangle hooks on a hinge on the sides. It says do not use wire on back.
