How to repair small area of cracked plaster on the ceiling

Hello everyone!

I want to paint my ceiling but it has a bit of cracked skim, roughly 6 inches long. The affected area is circular in shape, with that single 6 inch crack as the diameter. The skim either side is sagging by about 2-3mm and I can press the sagging piece back up towards the ceiling so it is flush. I was wondering if I could insert a glue spreader(or something similar) into the crack and glue this back to the ceiling? Is this viable? If so would PVA glue work, or would you advice a different type of bonding?

We are planning to refurb this room in about 3 years, so want to avoid costly solutions (eg re-skimming the ceiling), looking for something more short term.

I think that if I use a Stanley knife and cut the sagging piece of plaster out neatly, then I could use some filler on the exposed area and sand it down, but I fear that when painted it will look very different to the plaster around it, so this is option is my last resort :(

It looks like it isn't adhered properly, and may be an indication of a different moisture issue.

Personally I'd crack it off, see what flakes away easily and see if there are any signs of moisture seepage before trying to patch it.

Just like scraping off flaking old paint when going to repaint something like a window or fence. Scrape, remove loose pieces, patch, prime and paint. (At least what I would do but if an actual drywall expert weighs in go with their advice.)

I have cracks in my plaster ceiling but they can't be pushed back in like that. It's from foundation settling as the wife over the last 8 years has been doing yardwork changing the water penetration to the ground.

Big Wally's plaster magic. Used it on a plaster wall that lost adhesion, that was 12 years ago, still holding up!

I second this- old plaster is just prone to breaking after years and years. Used Big Wally’s Plaster Magic and my walls were back to perfect condition easily. It’s fairly straightforward and the website has videos and stuff

I see two, maybe three cracks in the picture. There is the main one, one near the wall and another that looks like it was painted over. I would check it with a moisture reader.
