Help with ceiling fan

Ok have hung a ceiling fan in a while.

I’ve got blue(light) black(motor), white and ground from the fan.

Red, white, black, ground from the ceiling.

Can some one tell me what goes where? I’ve got power to the light but when red was in both blue and black the fan wouldn’t turn on, but the light would . What am I doing wrong

From the ceiling, red and black are separate power (hot) wires. One for the light (blue) and one for the fan (black)

So red to blue, and black to black.

No, unless there's a few hundred dollars worth of safety stuff that's being added since the last nest I did 10 years ago.

So you can test both motor and light before spending time on the blades. Just remember to switch the breaker off when you do the blades -- safely is important.

Is there more than one switch on the wall? Common practice is to pull a 14/3 wire up to a ceiling fan in case the motor and light need to be switched separately. However a lot of new ceiling fans with remotes only need one switch. It's possible yours was wired with that in mind and the red wire is only capped behind the switch, so it won't do anything at the fan

Are you sure there isn’t a remote puck for the fan? That typically wires into the ceiling and then into the fan components.
