Not one for electrical, my least favorite trade. I just bought a ring and it comes with the little wire extenders, I need to use them as the doorbell wires are too short. The doorbell wire is copper but the ring extenders are a silver wire. Is mixing materials okay?

The electrics are fine, but if you value your privacy and respect the privacy of others there are serious questions to be asked about installing a Ring product. Personally i would stay away from it and i would be quite displeased if a neabor would hang one up

The extender wires are tin plated copper. Tin plating is for corrosion resistance and is compatible with your bare copper doorbell wire.
Don't let the doorbell hear you questioning it. Just install Jeff's camera and let him spy on you and your neighbors forever.
It came with these wire extenders, but you thought you’d better check with Reddit, who would know better than the manufacturer?
I’d say that installing a product on your own property is one’s own private business and my neighbors can privately complain about it to themselves

That depends on where a camera is pointed, in my local legal context you have no right to film the public space or the propertie of others if avoidable. Your right to film ends wher others right to privacy begins.

That is essentially a security camera with extra steps.
Also, it a badly engineered product with serious flaws in its data security.
It's always legal to film in public space, it's also legal to take photos of a house from a public space. What is illegal is to use the camera to peer inside, i.e., zoom into any private space within the house.
The short of it, you are fine use them.
The longer version. Because the extensions are most like AL wire, or tinned. When you attach them to copper and they will oxides faster. Now that being said, the oxidation will take awhile and the way shit is made these days, the wire will most likely outlast the door bells. But if you want to extend the life of the wire, you can buy Noalox (or some type of anti-oxidant inhibitor) to add to the wires when you make the connection to prevent this.

Let it go. That’s not what this post is about we all now know how you feel about Ring doorbells.
That is not true for any jurisdiction in the United States. The 1st amendment protects filming of public spaces and private property that can be viewed from a public space.
I can stand in my yard and film directly into you window and it is legal anywhere in the US. If you want privacy, close your curtains.
This is an article from 5 months ago about a fix that was put in place 5 months before that, that would allow someone to see my front porch, a place entirely visible at all times from the sidewalk 30 ft away

Most door bell wiring is very low voltage (picture speaker wire or coxial cable). As long as you’re not running 110v through it (some do and those are not compatible with ring doorbells) you’re fine. You can use pretty much anything.
