I have a plastic tablet stand, and I'd like to get some tape to increase the stand's grip on the tablet (to prevent sliding), but I'm not sure what type I need.

When I search for "grip tape for phone", I find tapes that are designed to go on the phone and improve the grip against your hand, so that doesn't work for me (b/c I need tape that'll go on the stand and grip the tablet).

I also tried Gorilla tape, and it does improve the grip slightly, but not enough.

What would be a good tape for this?

Use EVA/craft foam :)

If you glue it right on the tablet stand, it'll increase the friction against the tablet or phone, usually enough to hold against sliding

Huh, never heard of that, so thanks for the idea. I'll give it a try.

Would I need some special glue for it, or can I just use like superglue or something?

That bubbly no slip drawer liner is probably the next best thing. Easy to find and cut.

Oh, that's a cool idea, and I have some at home, actually! I'm going to try it and report back.

Would you glue it to the stand, or just line it?

May as well not glue it until you're sure you're happy with it. Regular double-sided tape would be sufficient and less permanent.

Ok, tried it. Turns out, the liner I have at home is not as grippy as the tape. Maybe there are grippier liners out there, though. :)

I have used a dab of silicone based glue ( E7000, I think) on the item-to-surface contact areas and placed it on wax paper to dry. That keeps it level. When dried, the wax paper peels away easily.

Was going to suggest similar. Run a bead, or dots, of silicone caulk where the tablet sits.

Did you look at gaffer’s tape??

No, but now I read up on it and it sounds interesting. Gonna go to a store and try its grippiness on my phone.

I glued a piece of an old resistance training rubber band to mine (a flat stretchy ribbon type, it's very grippy)

Huh, I just tried that, and it works pretty well. Such a cool idea.

How long has yours lasted? I noticed rubber bands from like grocery store do deteriorate (harden and fall apart) pretty quickly (~a year), but I suspect the rubber from the exercise bands is different, so will last longer. Curious about your experience.

a couple of years at this point since I put it on, the training band itself lasted about five years in it's intended use, until a piece ripped off the end (I don't think you're supposed to tie knots in it like I did, that's where it came apart). It seems fine as a grippy surface still.
