I have well water with an outdoor pump house. I want to install a filtration system because we have a significant amount of iron in our water that is visible in build up on fixtures. The only place where it's easy to access the plumbing is in the pump house, I'd have to tear out drywall to get to it inside. I'd appreciate any advice on a filter system that would fit my needs.

Pentek big blue filtration system. It is the DIY filtration system that has tons of different filters.

For my well I do the following filtration. 20micron particulate filter -> Radial iron filter -> Activated Carbon filter.

Then just replace the particulate filter when water volume gets low and replace the iron filter every other time. The carbon filter is replaced once per year.

Thanks for the detailed response, I was looking at a system like this and it seems like it would fit the bill. A three filter system would probably look impressive enough to my wife that she wouldn't bug me about it too much, lol.

Have same issue. Several years ago purchased an iron water filter from Home Depot (water boss)specifically stating iron reduction. Price as $500. It has proven useless .

To remove iron from water you need to oxidize it then filter it with a sediment filter. A greensand filter will use a chemical reaction to achieve this. You wont find this at HD, you need to get this from a company who specializes in water treatment.
