I was trying to replace my apartment’s painted over door hinges. I was able to screw off one side but when I started chipping the paint on the other side, I was unable to find the screws. I looked online and can’t find any information about this. How do I remove these hinges?

Knock out the pin in the center of the hinge with a punch, then scribe around the hinge with a utility knife break the paint loose then you can replace the hinges

Is that metal where you scratched? It is either covered, painted, or part of that frame. Metal door frame?

Yea, it’s metal- I can’t uncover anymore paint.

Agreed. It looks like that is part of the metal frame.

It’s a metal door frame. A bitch to remove. My friend had this and found the metal frame was install after the flooring was put in.

Do you own this apartment?

Looks like a fire rated steel frame. Common in multi floor apartment buildings.

That is a weird looking hinge. Is it mounted on the part of the door we can't see? As for the part attached to the frame: scribe it with your utility knife, deep enough to get through all the layers of paint on all of the hinges, then hit the hinge with a hammer.

As others have said, this looks like the hinge might be part of the door frame and won't come out. You could try removing the paint with something like citri-strip on the part of the hinge holding the pin so it looks nicer.

Looks like the screws are on the other side. Close the door and see

First things first - why are you attempting to do this? Is there an issue with the hinges or is this for aesthetic reasons?
