First thing I thought when I saw the title.

I think masks are terribly comfortable and everyone will be wearing them in the future.

Went there in 2019. The whole West Coast was awesome...spent a week out there driving all the way up the coast, around the northwest to Sligo. Had a wonderful trip... People everywhere were super cool.

I painted this near exact scene. What amazes me is how different the light is, the waves, and shadows are dependent on season, weather, and time of day. It can be lit gold in sunset, or brilliant in the midday sun. Stunning.

Do the Doolin Cliff walk and you approach the cliffs from the non-touristy direction. Great people and slightly adventurous.

Is that the one where after a food van it tells you to STOP because there is a danger of death? Past the castle? And multiple times you encounter these warnings, plus a few Samaritan signposts? I found those quite sad because I took it to mean many people actually attempt suicide there.

Anyway if it is I did that walk with my husband and 6 and 3 year old, we had an amazing time, moderate difficulty for us with the kids. We just took it easy.

When we got to the end of the trail (for us and most others but one jogger chose to go even further) there were a couple who laid down picnic blankets and offered us some fruit. So friendly. It was such a sight getting there just before sunset.

Sorry for the long response... I'll never forget the Cliffs of Moher, such fond memories for the short time we were in Ireland.

That does sound lovely. The one I’m referring to starts in Doolin and then follows the edge of the farmland to the Cliffs of Moher experience area. They bus you back to Doolin.

Went to Ireland finally this August, after wanting to do so for pretty much half my life (15 years at least) and damn. Best trip I've done so far.

Beautiful country, lovely people, good food and great music.

No, they take them in when there's fog or bad weather. Takes a crane to put them back up.

I saw the cliffs of moher, very cool but here is something even better.

Get on the first ferry to the Aran Islands. After getting off the boat, take a ride to the cliffs. For an hour we were the only ones on this cliff. One of the most amazing sites I've ever been to. No fences, you can lay down and put your head off the side of the cliff.

bro_salad t1_it7o2xr wrote

The Aran Islands themselves are wonderful. We spent a day on Inisheer, rode bikes around, saw the shipwreck, then got food and drinks in a wonderful little pub. Ireland is packed to the brim with simple, quiet beauty. I can’t wait to go back.

My wife and I are going to Dublin for a week in late Nov/early Dec and there is a pretty good chance we will take the trip out there for some Princess Bride cosplay pics.

tuttym2 t1_it6dfa0 wrote

Not of your point of trip but if its for a weeks holiday please don't spend it in Dublin, there so many nicer places in ireland with way more things to do !

pastryfiend t1_it7i4hn wrote

We flew into Dublin and took a bus tour to see the sites. Then spent the next 8 days driving all over, what a wonderful country. The one nicer weather day was when we went to the cliffs, it's like it was meant to be. I knew that I'd enjoy Ireland, but didn't realize just how much.

Honest_Its_Bill_Nye t1_it8pcvg wrote

Unfortunately we really do not have a lot of time in town, and we basically have 1 day scheduled for "out of Dublin."

What are your suggestions for places to see from Dublin by car in a 10-14 hour day of traveling?

1

tuttym2 t1_it9cck0 wrote

It's definitely worth trying to head up to the giants causeway. The cliffs of mohar are a no brained and can't be missed on the West Coast. If you could do 1 night out of Dublin I'd recommend dingle, it's a town on kerry for the coast and is amazing but also is near Skellig michael where star wars was filmed. Belfast has the titanic existence and also has opened up a game of thrones experience where it was filmed which could be combined with the giants causeway. Sorry if I'm rambling there lots to see, feel free to ask questions :)

The true beauty of Ireland is outside the city. Dublin is pretty meh.

bro_salad t1_it7olds wrote

I’ll be the 3rd person to tell you the same thing. Get out of Dublin as much as possible.

Also, when you get to the cliffs, go past the main parking lot and drive another minute or two, then turn right. There’s a family that lets you park on their land for cheap (£3 I think). A quick walk and you can enjoy a portion of the cliffs that has 95% less tourists.

We went there in January many years ago. Fog was so thick you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face. There was a lovely visitor centre with a giant photo of the cliffs so we took a picture of ourselves in front of that

As someone who spent a lot of time on the west coast as a kid, just go, there are so many little towns and sights to take in. Worth every penny and minute you spend there.
