It’s such a beautiful country. We are spoiled rotten on the west side of the country for sure

Pretty apt description honestly. The perfect entry point to the Northern San Juan’s.

Love the contrast between the trees and the mountain 😄

Yes sir!! It was a special sight. It was a nice and moody late afternoon with clouds a plenty. The perfect landscape shooting conditions IMO

I saw the mountains and went, "that's pretty cool!" Then I saw the aspens and the scale dawned on me. Looks like this is a place that I really need to travel to! Do you have a favorite season to visit?

Omg, this is amazing! Was this recent? Are the leaves still like this? Might make the 4 hour drive if it's still a few days ago.

Your photo is epic, too, man. Nice shot.

tommydarko12 OP t1_ispujns wrote

It was about a week and a half ago. My guess is that the leaves are a bit past their peak, but I’m not sure 🤷🏻‍♂️

Did you backpack in or ATV? It’s a gorgeous place

tommydarko12 OP t1_ismsym1 wrote

No I just drove my little Subaru crosstrek right up there!

Oh shoot for some reason I thought this was Wheeler Geological Area. Thought the trees seemed more dense than I remember but it was a long ass hike in. There are “roads” that go up but they didn’t look ideal for a vehicle. I’ll have to put Ridgeway on next years list.

I would highly recommend leaf peeping there. It's a photographer's heaven during the last week of September/first week of October.

I consider myself very lucky that I got to live in Colorado for two years. Such an awesome place. And I don’t mean “awesome” like how we usually mean it, I mean awesome as in, pull over on the side of the road and gawk in silence at the mountains, colors, beauty.

Protip: the stretch between Ridgway and Durango (through Ouray and Silverton) is the prettiest part of Colorado.

I’ve been there & it’s beautiful. It also looks like how Mordor is portrayed in film.
